American Idol

I sometimes watch American idol when I catch it. I dont have a TV so it's not very often.
What I often ask myself though... Why on earth are these people so crazed, hyped and obsessed with making it to the next stage? Like seriously. Some of them get absolutely heartbroken when they get a rejection from the judges.
I just don't get it. Did they seriously think they had a chance to make it out of the many thousands that apply? Do they seriously feel so entitled to making it that they have to cry and act as if the world just ended because they got a rejection? X_x
I simply don't understand this behaviour.
I mean really.. It's just a competition. Held once a year. If you really base your hopes on making it in the music industry on this show, then I doubt you really belong anyway. Jeez x_x
Like... They should prepare themselves mentally for rejection and at least be happy to have been on the show and met these super-duper-stars or whatever. No need to cry, as there are plenty of other paths to making it.
