Neck and back problems - help?

Posted 12-02-2010 at 08:31 PM by Mudokon_Master
When I move my neck forward, my back hurts. I was playing dodge ball at school and when a ball was coming for my face I did a kind of "matrix" thing and now I'm stuck with this neck/back problem. Any suggestions? I'm going to Wet 'n' Wild next week for a school excursion for the good kids at our school and I really want to enjoy it without a sore back.

Your back wont be the only thing sore when you go to Wet 'n' Wild.

See a doctor? That seems like an obvious answer.
You probably just pulled something. If that's the case, the pain should let up in a few weeks at most.

I'm afraid there's no immediate solution to a sore back. Pop some pain-killers and sleep on a heating pad. Do stretches daily, even if they hurt. If the damage is in the muscle, then invest in some of those icy-hot patches that stick to your back. They do wonders.

It feels like the pain is within the muscle, but I haven't told my mother yet because I just don't want her to worry. I'll give it a week maybe but if it still hurts I'll tell my mum about it.

Is it normal for back problems for someone my age? That's what I was meant to say.

Go see a chiropractor. The good ones can fix a put-out back in no time at all.

Depends on how fit you are. If this game of dodgeball was the first bit of strenuous exercise you've had for a while, then it's not surprising you would feel some residual pain.

They also charge outrageous rates and insist you return for regular adjustments. I would only ever go to a chiropractor for ongoing back problems.

That's why I said 'good ones'. You're talking about the bad ones.

There are two types of chiropractor; the ones who insist that regular visits will help you be healthier in your day-to-day life and the ones who tell you to come in when your back is sore. Sadly, the former are becoming more and more common, because they earn more money that way. My sister is a chiropractor of the latter stripe and is excellent at what she does.

True enough.
Two of my uncles are chiropractors. If it wasn't for them telling me firsthand how to tell the quacks from the healers, I might end up like my dad who had his back severely damaged by one of the former.

My grandpa was a chiropractor, and he didn't charge a lot. But he was too nice, and that's why he went out of business. You should probably exercise more. Working something is always better then just resting on it contrary to what some people will say.

No. Believe it or not the internet was my savior.

You have no idea how good it is to be shitting twice a day. All my back problems disappeared along with it.

Now to get back into shape.

I just deleted about three versions of this post in which I tried to guess how the internet could have been your saviour. In the interests of good taste, I shall just ask instead.

How?

Twice a day? You think that is unproblematic?

How?
I was browsing stories of people who suffer from IBS and one aligned very similarly with what I've been through. He said that he started taking large quantities of probiotics and it sorted him out. It couldn't hurt to try, so I went and bought some of the capsule based ones and have been ingesting them every one or two days. The effect was almost immediate, three days later I was in heaven!

Considering I could go anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks without a shit, twice everyday is heaven.

Sorry to be rude; but when going two weeks without a shit what happens to all the food consumed?

It just piles up in your shit pipe. Hence constipation.
