First Slightly Disoriented Post

I wonder what you're supposed to post in these blogs... I've seen others here post videos and stuff like that, so I guess I'll just post whatever interests me. At the moment it's this:

I think I'm seriously in love with this film. Even watching the trailer makes me break out in a stupid grin like I did the first time I saw that film, when the opening song reached its climax and the title flashed and crackled across the screen... *reminisces*

(Also, I've just found out about Stranger's Wrath. I think I may need to ask for an old XBox for Christmas this year, so I can play it and Munch's Oddysee. They both sound so good!)

...And apparently that's not how you embed a video here. ;^^ Any advice on how to do it properly would be greatly appreciated! XD

You have to copy the embed code and paste it

MO and SW are great

Oh and BTW I noticed you like collecting Vinyl LPs? Do you listen to them or just collect them?

Ah, that's so cool! Depending on when they come out, though, I might still get an XBox anyway, as I kind of have a thing for obsolete technology. ;^^

I listen to records as well as collect them, although I try to listen to my rarer ones less than the others. I think the main reason I collect them is that I just love music in general, and I'm really drawn to the idea of being able to listen to it in any format, without the format's obsoleteness being a barrier. I also collect 78s and cassettes for the same reason (although not to the extent that I collect vinyl).

And thank you for the help! I'll have a try at embedding the video properly now.

EDIT: Hazel-Rah, I've just noticed your username... are you by any chance a Watership Down fan?

Get Frank Zappa's Apostrophe and Waka/Jawaka. My uncle gave them to me in the '70s. Great stuff. And it's always nice to listen to Bob Dylan on vinyl as well.

Everything sounds better on Vinyl IMO, they only replaced them with CDs because they don't have to burn as much oil to make them plus vintage audio equipment never breaks because it was made well. Also you have to love all the beautiful art work you get with an LP as opposed to some little booklet in a plastic jewel case that's gonna break in a day anyway.

You should definitely get an original Xbox, very underrated system with some graphics that rival a lot of today's stuff. And I just played it today so it's not just a nostalgia thing

Yes I am a huge Watership Down fan, it's my favorite story ever and I'm obsessed with Hazel-Rah

Only pretensious snobs say that. CDs have perfect sound reproduction and don't force you to sit through crackle.

CDs sound awfully compressed to me and lack the warmth of Vinyl, besides they don't all crackle, not if you get a good pressing. There's no competition, 180 Gram vinyl swallows CD up and shits it out.

Vinyl is especially good for music with a lot of details and instruments that have subtle differences in sound. Digital music is just a synthetic copy of real music, binary has limitations in capturing the essence of a sound wave. Digitized sound waves could sound a whole lot better than they do but it would be a tremendous undertaking sampling every little detail in a sound wave and converting into binary. There are CDs that sound good especially ones with less content but they always end up compressing them it seems. Never buy compilation albums that's my advice to you.

Analog sound is not plagued but these restrictions, think of digital as a standard light switch and analog as a dimmer switch.

You're kidding, right? CDs don't use compression on the audio. It's simply sampled and digitised (at a much higher frequency than the human ear can detect) and nothing more. The audio on CDs with 'less content' is no different from any other CD.

The 'warmth' that you hear from vinyl records comes from the producers pumping up the bass in order to get over the limitations of the way that sounds were reproduced by the needle.

So, basically what I'm trying to say (again) is that you're a pretentious snob.

I guess even warmth just being added by extra bass can still sound preferable, depending on your tastes. It's probably the same reason for people buying headphones that emphasise bass frequencies (I personally prefer ones with a more clinical sound, btw ). I know this sounds strange, but I actually love the sound of vinyl crackling. It's probably a nostalgia thing, but somehow the songs that I've always had on vinyl just don't sound right to me when I try listening to CD or MP3 versions.

If vinyl was better than CDs you wouldn't be able to alter their playback settings to sound like vinyl.

Surely if she wasn't a professional she would have charged more, since it was a service she wouldn't normally provide?

Also, my mother is about 20 years older than you.
