An Exciting Journey: The Windows Story

One day in 1984, Bill Gates codes Windows 1 (don't worry, he eventually figures out how to make the clock round):




He writes an art program that makes full use of all eight colours (unfortunately the bright aqua makes your eyes water too much to use it):




It's better to have greyscale than to burn your eyes out (avoid playing Reversi at all costs, unless you're immune to saturation):




Bill Gates discovers an amazing new set of colours, which can be seen here in MS Paint's palette:




To accommodate the internet, an update of Windows 95 is released that is labelled as a completely new version:




Bill Gates decides his favourite colour is blue:




And discovers transparency:






And, finally, he hires a team of graphic artists:

Windows 3.1 had MS Paint. We had a Windows User Guide, back in the day, which had all sorts of fun activities you could do with in Paint.

Just seven years ago I had a computer with Windows 3.1 on it. Thankfully, I don't remember it all that well.
