God Fucking Damnit

Posted 10-12-2010 at 08:59 PM by Daxter King
So I just looked around my computer for something, and realized stupid fucking me deleted all my God damned writing. A lost a couple of short stories, and a ton of poems. Some of it was down right shitty, but there was some stuff in there that I feel was genuinely well written. I tried some system recovery applications, and none of them can find it. Damnit, this is the most frustrated Ive been in a really fucking long time.

I recommend making backups in the future and storing them in completely different folders. Different drives if you can.
Just yesterday, a friend of mine was exclaiming his amusement over the fact that he recently found the backup to a novel he had deleted months ago. It was somewhat amusing because he had managed to be smart enough to make a backup then dumb enough to forget about the backup when purging the file.

Commiserations, but, other than learning from your mistakes, I doubt there's much you can do on this..

You could try rewriting them. You'll be surprised how much will come back to you. I've rewritten stuff I wrote years ago word for word without even realising it.

These were creative writings, none of it was for school. I do feel a bit better though, after some uplifting words from friends.

To me, a bit, being only one eighth of a single byte, doesn't seem worth the many, many bytes of data you have lost. Is there anything we can help with that may increase your feelings by a bit or two more?

Shit. I write myself, and I can imagine how I'd feel if I lost some of my really old stuff. Sorry, mate.

That happened with me and some of my compositions once. I was damned angry as well, though some of them still lurk on other comps. Sorry to hear about this.

I made a blog about the same thing when it happened to me. Data loss sucks. Now I have a small box of USB sticks. One for photos, one for work documents, one for personal writing, one for game plugins/skins. I update them every few months.

If spending money isn't your taste, just attatch it all to an email and send it to yourself. *Starts to hum 'Rikki Don't Lose That Number'*

But yeah, it really, really sucks. It's a bit late for backup advice, but just remember a) The odds are if it is really vital you'll probably have copied it somewhere else, b) Everything else can be remade and c) At least it's given your PC a good clear out, so it might run a little better.
