What the hell?

So, no one would volunteer to babysit my niece, so I took the honour of doing so. I had the baby monitor set up. After an hour, I realised that hers was on, and the one nearest me was off so I turned it on.

As soon as I turned it on, I heard something. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you meant to hear static on a baby monitor? After a while, something began to play. I can't describe it but it sounded metallic, some kind of noise in a rhythm of sorts. After three different kinds of audio, it went in a loop and continued to do so.

I realised if I told anyone, they wouldn't believe me, so I took out my phone and recorded the strange noises. After about 40 seconds, it went back to pure silence. After my sister heard the recording she said, "probably interference". My fucking ass.

So, if it was, I still feel very shaken and uneasy. The noise was nothing I could think of that could be made by an instrument or a voice and how it continously looped was a mystery to me.

So...yeah. Freaky shit.

Last week I bought a Megaphone/Bullhorn from Winners. Winners is a clothing store that sometimes has electronics. It's not an industrial tools warehouse.

Said megaphone/bullhorn was 14 dollars, by the way.

It has a record feature that you can record up to ten seconds of angry yelling before it loops, so I did the smart thing and recorded DEAD FUCKING SILENCE in my back hall. At first it was just a click and that HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGHHHHHH noise that recorded audio often has. I did this on tuesday.

I turned on the playback feature yesterday(I haven't done a lot with it) and there was a rhythmic buzzing sound, totally nonsensical and inexplicable given my mom doesn't even touch the thing and I keep it and the batteries for it separate. ( to avoid temptation)

Later that day it was back to normsies.
It's a creepy noise, but it's got nothing to do with the supernatural. It's just feedback/interference.

When I worked at the Saint Vincent De paul I fixed quite a lot of Baby Monitors, and some of them were actually on the same wavelengths/bands that some of the cellphones and walkie talkies the staff used. It's entirely possible you were just hearing someone dialing or something.

As someone who spent a few years listening to baby monitors I can tell you that noises like that are extremely common, especially in the cheaper models.

I do believe it can be interference. Such things are possible. My friends speakers once picked up her stepdad's music, even though the two computers weren't connected, and they were both in separate buildings(they had a type of outdoor room right next to the main house where she lived).

Stand on top of your car and hold it high in the air, if you hear a bunch of hisses and clicks, call M. Night Shyamalan immediately.

The Rand Corporation, in conjunction with the Saucer people, under the supervision of Reverse Vampires, are working on a fiendish plot to make people too nervous to use baby monitors so they can kidnap your children and sell them to Ukrainians.

In other news, wouldn't it be great if there was a country called Nain so a person who came from there would be called a 'Nainian' which would be cool because that is spelt the same way forwards as backwards.

Goddamn I hate the Rand Corporation. Every time I search Google for the C++ function 'rand()', all the top results are them.
