Once and for all, my stance on the TGA schism

I had been away from the board for some time when it all happened, but I was still pretty shaken by it as well, so I joined the others at The Glass Asylum. I'm no longer bitter about the whole mess. But for posterity's sake, here's my stance on what happened:

I do understand the reasoning behind revoking Sydney's administrator rights - she was being unneccesarily harsh toward certain members. But the OWF is just an online forum, not a country or a even a town whose inhabitants you have to protect. Just a forum. And it did belong to Sydney after all, dictatorial behavior or not.

Anyway, I am not bitter anymore. I stopped being bitter years ago, because, well, it's just an online forum after all. However, I still do find the decisions made back then somewhat distasteful.

In fact, I am happy to see that OWF still survives, while The Glass Asylum has long ago turned to dust. It was the first online forum that I ever joined, ans it still has a special place in my heart.

...Just don't go looking up my old posts, 'mkay? I was a young idiot back then...

For anyone who's interested, I've got some screenshots of TGA's various designs. It went through a ridiculous number of redesigns during its brief existence. These are low-quality versions - the originals were too large to upload.

Notes on the designs
#1 - Original design. The one element that stayed through all designs was the flower.
#2 - Nobody liked this design. It didn't stay long.
#3 - I've actually nothing interesting to say about this one.

There was also a fourth, circus-styled design. After that the board disappeared for a while. Then Sydney brought it back with a... colourful design, after which TGA vanished forever.

Some of the old regulars can actually still be found at The Church of Pokey (formerly The Stonage Repository). Although that place looks to be mostly dead these days, too.

I'm still around on the internet. You may encounter me these days as Albertosaurus Rex, or via older accounts which bear names like CP and Qlberts. It's been a great time here, but I've moved on.

Ah, but if it was merely an online forum - why did you hold such bitterness? Internets is serious business works both ways.

Anyhoo - It's been a long time since I've seen those pretty designs. I really like No. 2 :-|

Well, age brings wisdom, they say. I have gradually come to realise these things. Yes, I did take it all a little too seriously at the time...

as interesting as this is, and like any good nosey member i read up on this TGA debacle and all the Sydney business almost a year ago, but why do you feel the need to come here to tell us you have 'moved on'? hardly any regulars here now know what happened, and even fewer were actually here at the time of the occurrences. why pick open old wounds? i know you're essentially saying 'no hard feelings', but sometimes its best to just let things lie, you know? its almost guaranteed that someone who was deeply involved in this will not like it being brought back up.

i would say that its nice to have such an old member return, but seeing as you've stated you have 'moved on', that doesn't really leave me with much to say other than "hello, hope your new forum endeavours will/are as enjoyable as my own." with respect.

These old MKI type OWFers just don't have the same sense of nostalgia as the newer models.

What MA said, just in less words.

(I actually was going to post something similar but shorter...)

@ MA: In a sense you're right. Originally, I had a disclaimer in my signature explaining that I've gone to TGA, for anyone who might be browsing old posts. I recently got hit by a wave of nostalgia (Not just for OWF, but other things as well) and decided to check the forum out. I have no intention to post regularly here again.

I was surprised to see that so many new members know about this stuff, so I decided to make a post in the Classics thread to give my stance on the whole business (Most of this blog has been copied from there). Then I discovered the blog function and decided that that was better than my old signature disclaimer. For the person and a half who actually cares, that is.

I have also been a bit harsh towards Alcar during that time, and would like to apologize.

(I was also flabbergasted by seeing a thread about sex toys here. I couldn't resist replying. I'm not against discussing sexuality, but damn...)

Did this really need a blog and two posts in the Classics thread? For somebody that says they don't mind what happend, you sure do talk about it a lot.

I kinda beat you to the punch, CP, but only because I found people were actually asking about it. The pics are interesting but I'm baffled at this great "re-unveiling."

@ Josh: Fair point. I only discovered the blog after I made the post in Classics and decided to use it.

The pics were still lying around on my hard drive and I thought, what the heck, if I'm posting here again, why not share them with you?

Also, I'm disabling comments now so that I will not be tempted to reply any further. Anyone who wishes to say something to me can pm* or e-mail me. Farewell, and good luck to all of you.

*I have my settings set so that I am informed by e-mail of any pm sent to me.

Cool Paramite, signing off one last time.
