Will he recover?

Hey, I have a rabbit too.

We have something in common.

If it's stress related then he should recover in a day or so, his hips seem to work fine and luckily he can move around fine without his back legs. If it isn't stress related then there's a good chance he won't recover. Just have to wait and see. The vet's first reaction when we brought him back was to have him put down.

I'm sorry to hear about that, I really hope he recovers.

Aw, poor little guy. We have a young hare as I think I mentioned in another blog, my mother dropped him last night and he disappeared. We thought he might have broken a leg and dragged himself off somewhere, but he came back this morning for his breakfast.

I wish my lower limbs became paralysed when I get stressed. As it is, stress causes my brain to become non-functional. Obvious difficulties result. Lucky bastard rabbit.

i don't mean to gossip-monger, and i'm in no sober state, but do you think the vet may have been rather forceful and accidentally buggered something up in his back legs via the jaw? the little animals are highly strung nerve-wise.

maybe it isn't even that, but dropping him off for a routine tooth-clipping and then coming back to find him paralysed is rather suspicious in my opinion. and it wouldn't be the first time for vets to do such a thing, either.

It's morning now and his back legs are still paralyzed, so it's becoming less likely that it's temporary.

Searching the internet yesterday I have discovered that most vets are not able to properly handle rabbits (yet they do so anyway) and rabbits returning paralyzed isn't as uncommon as you might think. Luckily we have found a vet able to handle rabbits nearby so we're going to go there instead.

Also for some reason the vet used wire cutters instead of the machine designed to cut and grind rabbit teeth so his teeth haven't even been cut properly. Not to mention it can shatter the teeth.

hope he gets better, chap. that vet sounded very incompetent.

The stupid bastards don't know what they're doing. They wave all their degrees at you and talk to you as if you know fuck all in comparison to them, but they don't have any use themselves. Wankers.

Before anyone complains, I'd like to let you know that I am aware this is a big generalisation.

We took him up to the new vet and have been told that he has either a bruised or broken back, the bruised being temporary and broken being permanant. All we can do now is wait to see if it heals.

well, time will tell. lets hope its only bruising.

Oddjob: guess which kind of vet is actually the most compassionate out the rest? farm vets, most of them that is. they're just as qualified, but they have the common sense to go with it and less arrogance. the only bad experience i've had with an agricultural vet was once, one of them turned up half an hour late. bad, and a cow slipped over due to it, but it was nothing compared to different instances.

also, they give you any medical supplies you may not have, for free, if they have enough for themselves. domestic vets, not so good, in my opinion. then again, i'm biased.
