It didn't bother me, it just infuriates me that Christians like him think they can just say things without considering that other people might see things differently, and might be offended.

'Turing your back on Richard Dawkins is like attempting to sacrifice your own son...' Only according to the bible that actually happened... In 'The God Delusion' it says doesn't say that, because most Atheists respect other people's religions and don't try and belittle or try and make other people's beliefs look stupid. Unless they ask for it, which in this case the guy who said it did.

If they don't want to read it then they don't have to - it's optional. Being told something out of the blue completely unprompted is unavoidable and therefore I have right to be irritated. The fact that Christians are belittled by the god delusion is incidental - they don't have to read the book in the first place. If I had read the bible and got annoyed then it would have been my own fault for mixing with things that were bound to annoy me, but I didn't.

Are you trying to say that if I came up to a Christian and said simply, 'Unless you are an atheist then you might as well kill your grandma' that you would condone it?

You can't compare The Bible and The God Delusion, certainly the latter is a far better book but they're both trying to accomplish distinctly different things. You should learn some emotional restraint because something like that is ridiculously mild compared to what you may have to put up with on a daily basis as you grow up.

I'm not trying to compare them - at what point exactly did I try to? I was comparing the possible OUTCOMES of reading them - being annoyed, I'm not trying to compare two books - I know they're different, and I would never try to state otherwise.

As for your comment on "emotional restraint" I am in fact a very patient person - I live around many Christians and Muslims who talk of their beliefs often, but unnecessary comments like that annoy me, and most other atheists around me. Maybe it is mild, but there is no way you can even try to support an action like that. This blog is about being irritated, not about what will eventually happen to me when I grow up. I'll make that blog at a later date.

If I was a fundamentalist Christian I'd feel vilified in getting angry over The God Delusion, it's a purposeful and blunt attack against me, my friends and everything I believe in. Getting angry about the bible is stupid as the people who wrote the books are long dead.

Now getting angry at people who openly posit the more extreme views in the bible IS justified, but I don't think anybody, even the staunchest athiest, would get angry over the book itself.

Also you started off the blog by saying that YOU ARE A HUGE ATHEIST! and since atheism doesn't have any sort of ranks to progress through I can only assume you mean that you actively try to argue with your peers about your lifestyle choices.

Defensive yes, insecure no - if I was insecure then I would be denying being defensive as I would be trying to mask the fact that I am not stable with my own belief, which I am (stable, that is). Saying that I am huge atheist merely implied that I am not moved or even slightly tempted to become a religious type by Christian or Muslim or whatever religion's comments. If I was simply an Atheist I wouldn't care about someone else's comments - the Oxford Dictionary definition of Atheism is 'Disbelief of, or denial of, the existence of a god'. If I am a huge atheist then I very strongly believe that there is no God - at no point did I state I wish to fight for this cause or argue its case - I don't care what other people think, its only when they stick it in your face like this Christian Preacher dickhead did that I do. Which is why I make a blog about being cross about THAT. Not about what the bible has to say. I have read the bible, and find it in no way nasty or unpleasant towards atheists - reading it was my choice, and If by some chance I was offended then it would have been my own fault. This preacher twat came and spooged it all over me, therefore I can be angry if I want to be about that individual circumstance.
