I read the Manga, it's easy to follow, extraordinarily long without getting boring, and makes up a crap-ton of fantastical characters without losing sight of a coherent plot.

Yeah, the manga is usually better for long runners.

Especially Bleach, that's one of those animes people watch for the sake of it being anime, not because it's actually good.
It was pretty much YuYu Hakusho, if YuYu Hakusho was smothered in Inu Yasha shonen bs. And don't try to tell me how great the story arc is. It sucked from episode one.

It sucked from episode one yeah, but it wasn't til the Soul Society Arc that Tito Kube went audaciously above and beyond what he could write with any scrap of authority or coherence.

I don't hate all anime, just all the crap that you and Ghost have listed. There are some great animes out there that break the mold and I love them to death, but as a general rule, most anime adheres to a certain formula that I hate.

Both Bleach and Naruto adhere to a formula I've seen a million times before, and I'm justified in this stance, as I've sat through about 90% of both series. Not because I liked them though, because I'm an American and I watch that much tv.

That's not uniquely anything, that's called a coming of age story and it's been done so much it's not even a cliche anymore.

As my dear brother has told me, the thousands of year old tarot cards actually depict a coming of age journey from the Fool to the Messiah. Both character archetypes are so common that you can't possibly judge the series on it.

Naruto is one of the very best coming of age stories I have ever read. I whole heartedly believe that, and I've read lots and lots of fantasy.
