AVATAR

What an awesome movie. Seriously. I saw it in RealD with some friends and...wow. It was honestly just some amazing ass shit. It was eight different flavours of amazing watchability. About twenty minutes in, you totally lose yourself in this fanastical world. Horses have six legs. Pterodactyl dragon fuckers swoop around like goddamn moses on a skateboard. It was incredible. It was beautiful. There was never a single point where I wasn't entertained on some level. It's the first movie in a while that actually persuaded me to root for the guys who aren't in big awesome mecha suits. Which carry knives.

I hear the story's shit. It's fucking pretty. But shit.

Apparently. WHAT SAY YOU TO THIS?

It's not terrible. Predictable, but they do it in such a way that still makes you happy or pissed when something good or shitty happens, even if you saw it coming. The final scequence is just infinitely badass and cool.

You know the dicksucking that the Transformers movies do for the US Military? This is the opposite. This is James Cameron going "goddamn look at this guy with his robot suit OH WAIT ALIEN RHINO TOO FUCKING BAD"

It's not the best script this year, but it's not bad. Some of the things the soldiers say are silly, but that's kind of the point I think. The scenes where the main character logs what he did as one of the natives could've been a little more consistent, but otherwise A-okay.

Even if you don't like the plot or script, it still has the visuals to fall back on. It is an astoundingly beautiful movie.

It's annoyingly close to something I wanted to write. Not so much plot, but the world building and technical achievements. This irritates me. Damn you James Cameron!

So, it's basically Slumdog Millionaire but with aliens instead?

I thought it looked silly. At first it was cool, then I was like "Nah, dumb."

However, the fact that there were never just one set of guns was hilarious.

Dude, it was a power-armour carrier as well as a gunship. It was awesome.

I would have gone and see it when I was at the theater a few hours back, but the fucking thing was SOLD OUT. The regular version, the big screen version and the 3D version were all completely fucking filled up for the next to sittings.

So I went to see Law Abiding Citizen instead. Cool movie as well. I'll go watch Avatar somewhere next week.

Also, please clear this up, is it worth seeing in 3D? Because this theater has the 3D version but my impression of 3D movies where you get goggles is that it's always epic fail. But if it's super awesome, I'll go see it in 3D.

You might as well see it in 3D just because it added to it. So yes, worth it.

Or wait.

What kind of 3D glasses? red and blue, or the black ones with the tinted lenses?

Havoc's Avatar
I have no idea. From what I could see people walking around with them it seemed black tinted but I'm not sure.

What third world country still uses the different colored lenses? I mean really.

You don't look at a film like Avatar the same way you look through one of those cheezy 80's 3d comics.

Hey, I have been avoiding every movie that has '3D' in it's title for the single fear of having to see it through one of those horrifying red/blue glasses that make the entire thing fuzzier then a blizzard. I've been reading up on the new tech just now though, and I am now cured of my 3D-phobia (we should come up with an actual medical term for that one, btw).

I have like a bazillion of the RealD glasses, coincidentally. I never recycle them and take them from people who will. I got a goddamn monopoly on 3D glasses.

What, you steal the glasses from the theaters?

Honestly, it's epic with or without 3D, but the 3D is apparently amazing so go see it that way if you have a chance.

You're meant to return them, but the theatres here take a a dollar off the price if you bring your own glasses, thus backfiring and prompting everyone to keep them.

Seriously seriously?! Unless the Netherlands are a technological backwater, no film has been released for color anaglyph in years. These days it's generally RealD (circularly polarised) or Dolby 3D (wavelength filtering).

Actually the rise of 3D movies in theaters hasn't started here since maybe March of this year. In fact I think we only have 4 or 5 theaters in the country who can support 3D movies at this point. So I haven't really been keeping much track of it. Up till now the only 3D movie thing I know are the things you find in amusement parks which are, as stated, extremely heavily outdated.
