If your brother thinks that for something to be a science we have to know and understand every damn thing that can possibly be considered part of or related to a specific discipline, then he's very much mistaken and you need to learn his ass without being distracted by unrelated personal attacks and flowery prose. This might be easier if you can separate your emotions from your passions (but that's probably one of the things that you and I differ on).

Psychology is what is known as a "soft science", in that while psychologists work scientifically to the best of their ability within the confines of the field, getting hard data is often problematic, though not impossible with ingenuity (obviously, this will depend on what it is that you are studying. Human behaviour is distinct from other aspects of psychology, for instance, and can be studied in different ways by other disciplines, and is much easier to quantify).

So often psychologists have to resort to more qualitative measures. The problem with studying higher brain functions, particularly learning (we have the same problems studying some animals) is that many of them are by nature unrepeatable with the same specimen. Then there are more complex issues that are beyond my ability to discuss.

I cannot wait for the day when the respective fields of psychology and neurology close the gap between them and we can trace the workings of our mind fully back to physiological causes. Until then, though, we need those who can understand the workings of the mind, however flawed it turns out their theories and models are. All science works that way. While those more inclines towards quantifiable data in the so-called hard sciences like myself can be easily frustrated by the less tangible nature of psychology and can see the discipline as a soft academical option, it takes a real genius to find ways to make the discipline work.

And of course, at least psychologists are interested in whether or not ideas in their field are true and work to falsify them, their own and others. Outside of the sciences you don't get that sort of intellectual honesty or a methodology capable of weeding out bad ideas and making disciplines self-correcting. Your brother can convince himself that your work is as flimsy and baseless as his own, but I can guarantee you that he does not critically analyse his magical imaginings... at all, let alone to the degree that scientists do.

You can see here that his arguments extend no further than playing on your fears that you have not truly escaped from his world of nonsense. He presents no arguments, forwards nothing in support of mysticism that you can address. As your brother he knows you well enough to bypass thought and push your buttons. Don't let him. You're better than he is (in this respect at least, the only one I can judge).
