Today was my first rehearsal with one of the youth orchestras in Lima. They sounded much better than I expected. Probably because 90% of them study in the national conservatory. It's also the only youth orchestra that pays you. So...yay for getting some kind of income!

Only thing is the trombone parts are written in tenor cleff, which I guess makes sense since I play on a tenor trombone. I've always played in bass cleff. So, I ended up playing the bass trombone part today which went okay. It's nice to play decent music for once, granted it's more difficult. So, I've got to learn how to read tenor cleff by next Tuesday. However, I like a good challenge.

I KNOW!! GODDAMN TENOR CLEFF! It was a permanent fixture in my music-playing life for the last year-and-a-half or so of my trombone-playing days, and I never really grew confident reading anything in it. It was worse when a piece would actually switch back and forth between bass and tenor cleffs.

I'm waiting to purchase a music stand before I start playing again, but I've NFI were to get one. I'd prefer to see it physically first rather than purchase online.

What's even better is that there's virtually no learning resources online. I'm currently writing out all the scales based on a transcription of the C major scale.

Max, maybe you could borrow one from your school if they have any to spare.

I highly doubt it. It's hard enough finding a place to practise on campus. It's a big university.

Seriously, university != school.
