My Super Mario Galaxy review
Posted 11-19-2007 at 12:59 PM by metroixer
Few, after a whole week of playing the game I beat Super Mario Galaxy!
It was a very fun game I must admit, and it highly exceeded my expectations. The music is nothing but orchestrated, you'll hear violins and horns, and orchestras throughout the entire game. Also there are some really cool remixes of old mario game music. Sure they've done it plenty of times, but I like it the most so far here. The gameplay is nearly topnotch, the controls take a little while to get used to (Mario is slower this time around) and the planets could get pretty confusing in getting around. Especially the small ones where the camera angle is HORRIBLE, and you can barely control it, other than that it's fine. The creators gave you 3 pieces of health this time around and not ten like the old 3-D games. They also didn't put as many coins in here as the last game. As a matter of fact there are more star shards then coins. Star shards are little sparkly rocks you collect by mario running over them, or flashing them with your wiimote. You could use them to stun enemies, feed certain creatures to get into a new world, and... Well that's pretty much there is to them. There is a ton of them too, and for every 50 you collect you get a 1-up. Trust me, you're gonna get a lot of one ups XD. Most of the environments are AMAZING. There are only like 2 I've been disappointed in, other than that, they're all great. Ranging from a toy-land to the airships from the third super mario bros game! Which may I add, has super awesome music :P. Now let me talk about the power-ups. I can only summarize them in one word: Disappointment. You barely ever use them at all, and even some of the most anticipated ones (Fire flowers) are timed! Which sucks a lot if you ask me. I was especially excited to use boo mario, but I only used him twice in the game so far. (Mind you, I don't have all the stars in the game so I might use boo mario again) As for the story: Bowser kidnaps peach, mario has to get a lot of stars to save her. Just like the last game. No problem though since story has never been a part of the mario series. Anyway I think I covered everything. Innovative levels, great graphics, good replay value. Super Mario Galaxy is a near perfect game whose only faults are camera angles, and possibly the lack of power up usage. |
