Top 5 Greatest Animated Shows of all TimeFirst up,
5) The Critic This show was not a masterpiece, but damn it, it deserved more than two seasons. It just needed to find itself, and once it had, it was cancelled by stupid ABC and FOX. It was created by Al Jean, and Mike Reiss - two former show-runners on The Simpsons, so basically, it has The Simpsons written...no, smeared all over it. There's been cameos by Homer and Bart, and numerous references to the show. If you like The Simpsons, and that general type of humour, then buy this on DVD, I'm pretty sure you won't regret it (I didn't). 4) Family Guy Okay, so there's quite a few things wrong with this show. But while it still has lots of problems, you cannot deny that this show has some of the most clever, unique humour you'll ever, ever find on TV. No matter how much you hate the frequent cutaway gags, and utter randomness like Brian in a banana suit singing, "It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time!!", there really is something extraordinary going on here. While I don't personally like this show at all, some of the humour featured in this show is so brilliant, that I don't think any other show could ever top it. I've actually bought the first 6 DVDs just because it's so ridiculously hilarious, and no other show (with the exception of Ren and Stimpy and the classic era of The Simpsons) has ever made me laugh as much as Family Guy. 3) Rocko's Modern Life This show....is so funny. It's just so silly...but that's what I love about it. This show can appeal to kids, teenagers, and adults at the same time - and The Ren and Stimpy Show seems to be the only other show of it's kind that could do that. And that really is a hard thing to do. Having people from all different ages like a show on a whole lot of different levels is extremely hard, and I honestly don't know how they did it with this show. Maybe because everything is just executed correctly. This and R&S, are the only two shows of this kind that make me love it's immature humour - it's hard not to when you see things like evil vacuums and evil fruit juicers attacking people. 2) Ren and Stimpy It's hard to describe how utterly brilliant this show is. And it's also hard to describe the impact it has had on cartoons and animation. It broke the rules, and showed that anything is possible. Some of the most beautiful, detailed animation I've ever witnessed, as well as some of the greatest characters you could think of, combined with gross, vile, disgusting visual humour and fart jokes that are so shocking, that to this day, they never cease to amaze me. 1) The Simpsons Without this masterpiece, you wouldn't have most of your favourite shows today. The Simpsons has shown that there is no better match than hundreds of absolutely brilliant characters, clever, subtle satirical humour, complex plots and situations, and even some emotion too. In Season 11, everything good about the show died, and blah blah blah, I won't get into this now. But I can tell you that everything from Season 7 downwards is some of the greatest television you'll ever witness. I'm done. |
