Computer Related Mishap

I was attempting to open a video file with Windows Media Player. It opened fine, but instead of showing a video as well as audio, it only used audio. I then attempted to open the zip file it was in, using WMP. Big mistake, as that changed every zip file on my computer to a WMV file. Infuriated, I searched on the interent for a way to reverse it and found none. I then figured that I could just download them all again. Big mistake again. Upon odwloading it, the zip file changed into a WMV file again.

Desperate now, I ask you all for a solution if you know of one.

Zip files do not change into WMVs. You've probably done something like set all zip files to be opened by Windows Media Player. Right click on a zip file and… do something. Maybe in Properties. Someone with Windows can give you more detailed assistance.

Aww don't be like that Pilot, you wll proberbly kill me but I'm running Windows 7, big mistake that was.

Anyway, Oddey, you proberby do not have the right codecs for your media player, download FFDshow, it will allow your media player to play a lot of different movie formats.

To change your ZIP files back to .zip then download this and run it:

Windows Vista Only
Fix Zip.reg >>

If it comes up as a load of text, copy it into notepad and save it as zipfix.reg. Then run that.

Only download that if your running Vista because I don'y know how it will work on XP, perhaps Pilot could look at it.

ALTERNATIVLY:

Download 7-zip, it allows you to unzip nearly any type of zip format.

Thanks MA, I have been using computers since I was three years old, god help me.

By the way, no one use Windows 7, it looks the part and has good time saving features, but when it freezes with more than three programs open at one time its faster to go with XP or Vista.

If Max's theory is correct, right click on the file, click on the button that says 'Opens with WMP... Change' and select Winzip.

(This is me presuming that Windows 7 works the same way as XP. It's been a while since I used the Win7 Beta).

Exactly what I thought with the earlier version of the beta, they were great. But no, microsoft has had the chance to put all its unessicary bullshit into windows 7. The build I have is 7100.
