I just came back from.........well, I say "just came back" it was really about 3 hours ago...... my dad's yoga class.
Holy sheemoles, talk about a workout, I had no idea how involved this class really was! I'd been to one class before with him a while back... He'd taken me as an introduction to see if it was something I'd be interested in. Unfortunately that first class was so packed there was hardly enough room to move let along put my mat down. On top of that, we arrived late so had to basically 'interrupt' everyone to find our spots.
This class had only 7 people in it though, and I found the environment relaxing and the workout easy enough to follow. I didn't really know the words or how the poses went or anything like that so I tried my best; the instructor Steve, a very open and caring fellow who is also a good friend of my dad's, would come over and correct my poses or stances from time to time.
I was really surprised that I had the stamina to keep up with everyone else, especially the instructor; there was a lot of odd balancing and whatnot to try and learn right on the fly. In addition to that many of the exercises involved extended periods of holding poses stationary... to the point of my arms and legs shaking from exhaustion but regardless, having to hang in there. The exercise was not only strenuous but along with the breathing practice and meditation was quite relaxing and invigorating.
I feel great!
I really needed something to get into to stay in shape as I typically don't get the exercise I need during the day in my line of work aside from moving heavy TV sets.... and I've had to lay off doing that too much in order to save my back.
And now all evening I've been able to stand up straight so that one class has mended my posture. I'm enthused. And I'll be returning.
