Eyelid lights

Posted 03-12-2009 at 07:33 AM by Wil
Last night, as I was lying in bed with my eyes closed waiting for sleep to come, I saw neon lights flashing on the back of my eyelids. My mind was thinking about something else entirely, and then these lights appeared.

They started at the bottom and went upwards, one ‘sign’ at a time. One was such a bright red that when I opened my eyes I had that blur you get when you’ve looked at something too bright.

I assume I’m going to die soon.

A migraine? This didn’t come with any pain, numbness, or nausea, it wasn’t ongoing, and the eyelid lights only lasted a few seconds. I wasn’t facing any source of light, in fact my face was within a foot of a blank wall. I’m quite certain is wasn’t a dream-like imagining, as I wasn’t anywhere near falling asleep. This was a fairly vivid shape being lit up in my closed-eye vision.

It seems more mysterious to me now than it did at the time.

I’ve never heard of it before. But then sometimes people look at me weird when a nerve in my neck gets trapped, or I stand up too quickly and go feint. Point me to some source of knowledge that I couldn’t get with Google? A name for it would help.
