Who can tell me what this is? And I'm looking for specifics, people. The YouTube page won't help you.

Try to resist its hyponotic effects.

I'll tell you all later on. I must say, she puts Oddworld character design to shame, yet would fit right it.

Whatever it is, it's both terrifying and beautiful.

I actually envy you being able to study these things for a living.

Unfortunately most of what I do, and would be best paid to do, is indistinguishable from high school chemistry. There's a lot of assessing chlorophyll and nutrient concentrations of seawater. Also counting plankton under a microscope, which is always fun. Similarly, studying the glamorous organisms usually comes down to statistical analysis of one sort or another. The rest is bookkeeping.

Unless you're insane enough to get in a deep-sea submersible. We only tend to hear about interesting discoveries or the Indiana Jones stuff, but they're always backed up by gruelling paper and lab work.

But there are plenty of gemtastic moments, such as catching an alien creature go by the legs of your oil rig. This footage is from an industrial ROV performing routine maintenance.

Sheesh. Some kind of cephalopod? I got quite confused at 1:40. Shedding its…trail? Which then grew again quite rapidly.

:
It has all the characteristics of an octopus, yet it is obviously not an octopus.
Clearly not all the shared derived characters of an octopus, though. Unless it’s an octopus.

Pay no heed to YouTube. Its collective consciousness is not known for accuracy in these matters.

I rescind my demand for specifics. I now require only generics.

I was posting the YouTube comment to make fun of it. Geeky fun.

Googling for better news of this video returns the same video of a Magnapinna creature. Stunning. But not like this.

Got it. I was trying to keep my searches generic, in case I was wrong with the initial cephalopod diagnosis. As soon as I gave that up and assumed the search term ‘octopus’ I found the video, and the creature. Blanket octopus, eh?

The sea (assuming that is infact a sea creature not a fresh water creature) will always in my opinion remain the most hauntingly mysterious thing on the planet.

it's quite majestic ...

Oi. Marcus. Where’s my prize for winning?

I don't recall mentioning a prize. There will be one, of course. Just not necessarily for any of you.
