I'm thinking of learning a musical instrument...

Any suggestions? Guitar is most definitly out, Sax is probably out and so is anything over about £300 (No Cello ).

At the moment I'm leaning towards my two favourite instruments; Flute and Violin and I don't think I could ever play a brass.

I was going to recommend trombone, but if you actually did you would make me jealous. Therefore I recommend the berimbau.

Flute does have the advantage of being easy to transport. I always had a kind of envy for all the instrumentalists who didn’t need to manoeuvre.

No wait, the cheapest I've been able to find on those is about $500. Actually, it's very hard to find a good quality instrument that's $300 or under.

Why don't you just rent an instrument that would normally be expenisive? They're normally really cheap to rent, and depending on the store you go to, you can add some of the rental credits to pay for a brand new instrument of choice.

Originally I was going to suggest Saxophone, but it seems that's not an option. Violins have a scratchy sound, but in a group with other instruments they sound great. Flutes are nice, but they are very common and it's difficult to play. I'd say... between Violin and Flute, get a Violin.

flutes sound nice*. Especially when my flute teacher plays his(I play the flute by the way). They look awesome too, especially when made of gold

Violins are very difficult to learn if you don't have any prior experience with an instrument. The violin is fretless, which means that you had better have the fucking ear or you will have a difficult time getting good at it. I recommend picking up a stringed instrument that has frets so that you can get some muscle memory going first.
