I Hate Flies

Posted 02-21-2009 at 12:14 PM by Slog Bait
They're the most annoying bug in existance. Why? because you'll sit there working on something in complete silence and somehow it makes its way into the room. Out of all the places it could fly about in the room, it chooses to fly right next to your ear and scare the living shit out of you because at first you have no idea what that noise is, all you know is something's buzzing.

Then, after you discover its just a fly, you get up and try to find the fly swatter. Not too annoying until you try to hit the fly. Then, you have to fucking ninja the fly when it's off guard and make sure you actually hit it, and not the space right next to it or it will fly away.

My worst enemy:

And yet, I seem to favor its appearance over most other bugs.

A bug is defined as a term for any insect or insectlike invertebrate. Flies are both inverterbrates and insects, thus being a bug.

Actually, a bug is defined as a term for an insect with mouthparts shaped for sucking. That is the strict scientific and biological meaning of the term.

Aww, but they're so tasty...

Say, you know what this reminds me of Max? The flies that are around the stalls of the open pit shitters at reststops. BZZZZZZ!!!

So, Nate, would that mean most bugs that we call "bug" are actually not bugs?

Pilot, What the hell's up with the bathroom joke?

Nate is correct. I was going to weigh in with that little fact myself. Order Hemiptera, the true bugs.

As for that prime Drosophila melanogaster specimen you posted (the common fruit fly, which are silent flyers and clearly not actually the subject of your ire, unless you live in Hawaii, where they are enormous) are one of the most valuable organisms in existance for their contribution to science, a contribution incalculable in its quantity and worth to humanity in general.

I read into the Hemiptera after Nate had posted his comment.

The fruit fly was the only good picture that I could find of any flies through a two second search on google. The fly that is pestering me is a horse fly, nasty little fellow there. However, we also have fruit flies. They are just as annoying as my buzzing little friends. I remember peeling a banana and discovering it was infested with the tiny flying insects.

Also, calling it a bug is still accurate, for it's bugging me you see.
