Eh.. People who are depressed for long enough time will get comfortable being in that state as it becomes kind of a protective shell.
Anyway, one way to beat stuff like this is actually to do something different... The more different memories you create, the more will be forgotten and replaced. Go out, have fun.. Run naked around in the woods and get some fun/more interesting memories
Or just start drawing, join a club... Or start acting gay for the heck of it. Just do something new damnit!

Anyway this is in no way fact, and just my own perception of things.

Edit: The point in all this is that you -could- do something about it without doing much effort. Simply smiling more would do a difference too.
Being depressed isnt cool.. That's for Emos to think like that.

Not as fun as they'd have you believe, especially if it's nighttime and you're trying to find your clothes with no light.

Peeling all the dead creatures and other crap off your feet would be quite an inconvenience too.

Seriously though, if you don't get rid of your demons whilst they're fresh then you could be a danger to yourself an others in later life.

At which point you'll be forced to seek help, might as well go in willingly.

Maybe your standards are too high at "stable". Me, I aim for "holds door open for people" as the epitome of my relationships.

Hrm. I've been rather depressed lately yet in my case I do want to deal with it, or at least to some degree. How I don't know but I seem to be making some limited progress in certain areas of my life, and none or negative progress in other areas. Some days go good or alright like today so far, other days go really bad like Monday. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

I live a life of total and self induced solitude for five days out of every seven, I made peace with my inner demons a long time ago.

My inner demons have attained a sort of semi-independent existance.
