This is version 1 of Abe It, the Abe's Odysee/Abe's Exodus BASIC clone.

My cousin made a manual for the game, so instead of typing up my own readme I'll type up that manual here(in a neater format and with the spelling corrected). For your information, the front cover has a picture of a giant Abe next to a closed barrier, above the shooting type of monster(if you've played abe you'll know what one I'm talking about, if not, you won't, it's a Slig. the manual doesn't mention the names of the enemies).

Signs Page(2/3)

Signs in Abe It are nothing to worry about. The signs are there for fun, to make you laugh and so you and your whole family will like to watch you playing Abe It over and over again. So enjoy the funniest Abe game on the computer.

Levers(4)

In Abe It levers are all over the show(true to some extent). The levers can open and shut barriers or they can do doors instead(coming in Version 2). They can also affect barriers on a different level(my cousin's name for screens). To make a lever work, stand in front of it(though sometimes you may appear behind it - the fault of the programming language used) and press [L] on the keyboard. Levers rock.

Levels(5)

Levels in Abe It could go on forever(a big exagguration(if that was spelt right), it's a limit of 15 screens a level pack even though the file numbers can go up to 9999 - more levels per pack may be added in later versions). Levels are easy to start but it gets harder quickly compared to the original games. When you have done three levels it will start to get harder but don't worry, I'm sure you'll do it some day or something. So play Abe It.

Monsters(6)

Monsters are easy to get past. First there are only two types(for version 1 anyway). But I won't tell you what they look like or what their name is. Just play Abe It and you will know the answers(addition: she won't tell you them, so I will: Sligs and Slogs, you should know them, if not, you'll have fun finding out).

Background(7)

I won't put this section: you should already know backgrounds do nothing(except decorate the level) - it's not the sort you can go to from the main part of the level. The signs are all in the background.

Dying(8)

It's just dying. In Abe It you can die in lots of ways. You can die by jumping off something high(see Falls). Or by a monster. Or maybe more.

Falls(9)

WATCH OUT! Abe is about to fall from the highest cliff in the world! Okay, he is not but he may fall from some high ones - and not always cliffs, it could be floating platforms or something too. Don't dare jump off something(or you will have to sometimes, but be careful it's not too high).

Dodging(10)

You may have to dodge enemies in some cases. To dodge slogs, do a long jump over them - even if you hit them while jumping you won't die. You can only dodge sligs by staying out of their range. Slogs don't move while you're jumping, and sligs don't move or shoot.

Beating the first 2 screens(11)

So you may be expecting a solution to the game? You're only getting one to the first 2 levels. To beat screen 1, pull the lever, go down left(or to the next platform) and walk out. If you go to the next platform, be very careful of the slog. Beating screen 2 is a bit more annoying(but not harder). Go up, jump over, go up and pull the lever, go back, pull the other lever, go back over and go up and out. And you'll be able to see what awaits you on screen 3 - I will tell you one thing: a Slig that's harmless unless you make a mistake awaits.

So how about controls and all that? They weren't in the manual? Nope. Here they are:

[<-] Left Arrow - Walk left.
[->] Right Arrow - Walk right.
[/|\] Up Arrow - Hoist(hoisting is a bit different to in the original games, but you'll get used to it quick).
[ ] Space Bar - Long Jump(like the triangle in PSX version, or space(i think it was) in PC version - but there's no Run Jump yet)
[L] Letter 'L' - Pull lever(See levers section)
[F] Letter 'F' - Wait and see!

How do you play this?
1) Get LTPB by Interplay - you may be able to buy it at www.interplay.com, find it on an abandonware/warez site or grab a second-hand copy of it.
2) Extract this archive
3) Run Abeit.bas in LTPB(not QBasic, Visual Basic or any other basic)
4) Play.

Known Bugs:

Power Jump: You can hoist then spacebar jump at the top of it, getting a height of 77 pixels, and along 50.

Unknown Rooms: You can sometimes go to hidden rooms. Screen 1 you can go up. Screen 8 you can try that again. They'll just crash the game though.

Slow Line: If you're in a Slig's firing range, but an obstacle blocks the shot, the game will run slower.

Barrier Push: Only affects the game on Screen 2 - if you stand under the double barrier, press right and then press up, you'll skip the rest of Screen 2.
