I read it as looking in the mirror and reflecting upon yourself as a person. For some people, that causes their self esteem and confidence to bust a hole in the ground, and when your self esteem and confidence are low you tend to believe you're undesirable.

All I was saying (and I didn't even mean it) was that it's very easy to set your standard for partners higher than your own standard as a person.

The way I see it, saying "I'm too picky" is just a less egocentric way of saying "The people around me aren't good enough". You can only lay the blame on others for so long. Everyone thinks that if people around them were better they'd have a boy/girlfriend,* but at the end of the day, if you're the one who's alone, then some of it must be your fault.

*Which is a bit weird in itself, since surely a better standard of person (if such a thing even exists) would be more likely to have personal criteria you didn't meet.

I meant it in quite the opposite way than you interpretted it. Saying 'I'm too picky' is an acknowledgement that my standards are too high. Someone whose standards are too high and who doesn't realise it wouldn't say 'I'm too picky', they'd say 'The people around here are stupid and don't recognise how hot I am'.

Also, my pickiness is actually less to do with physical appearance and more to do with the fact that I'm a bit of a wierdo and all my friends are wierdos and there aren't many wierdos out there who I feel like I mesh well with.
