Ah, Game Informer.... They're a good source of information and interviews, but their reviews are shitty. Fuck the whole "7 is an average game" scale. They're only slightly better than IGN in that department, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're paid to slander certain devs and cater towards others too.

Not completely. The interview was posted on Game Informer's channel.

Back on track though, you guys can never really know for sure if Lorne posts here or not. I mean for real, who the hell knows? Maybe he's secretly one of the founders and he's just been hiding it this whole time. Or maybe, he was a lurker who only just now showed up because of his own ARG. Maybe he's one of the guys who keeps conveniently getting sick so he can avoid going on the discord chat. Or maybe he's actually one of the multi-trolls here.

If you could submit one new question to Lorne himself, what would you say?

I'd ask if we would see more deities in future titles or if there are any more than just the occult/native ones we have seen already.

I find it funny that oddworld has a celestial presence but the industrial world is far more worshipped.

(This is incase we ever have an interview down the pipe line, good to think up some questions for discussion sake)

Depends who you ask. Ain’t no shortage of different faiths on Oddworld! You got your theistic ones, but talk to us Mudokons or the Grubbs and you’ll find we’re more interested in the spirit world that intersects our own. Everything’s got its own spirit if ya know how to see it (a loada Spooce never won’t help): the creatures, the plants, the rivers and mountains. Gods like Shrykull are more like aspects of this than they are individuals sitting in the clouds. The Glukkons don’t worship gods or spirits, they worship Moolah… at least these days.

Man, I really don't know. I don't think I could narrow down a specific question. I'd probably ask explicit story details concerning the future of Oddworld, and the shape of the narrative to come. I'd try and squeeze out a few little tidbits to tide us over. I'd like to know more about Maggie and the relationship with her grandmother.

If there's one thing I'd ask Lord Lorne about Soulstorm specifically, it'd be whether or not it's making use of bloom and if so, how it would compare to New'n'Tastey's approach (aka Oh My God There's So Much Bloom mode). If there's one thing I'd ask about the general future of Oddworld's new identity, it'd be his general plans or thoughts - if any - for Hand of Odd - the RTS game that's basically just been an idea for years and years. With the anticipated release of Halo Wars 2 on its way, I think RTS games are gonna slowly make a comeback, and may yet even have a future in the world of console gaming too.

I say the jump from 2D platformer to 3D platoformer and finally to First-to-Third Person Shooter was pretty substantial if you ask me - and for what it was, Stranger's Wrath was very well done. As Lorne mentioned, the only reason it didn't do so well was because EA screwed him over on marketing after Munch's Oddysee failed. I think the jump from what Oddworld is currently to an RTS isn't very far fetched at all to be honest.

Plus, sometimes you gotta just take a jump and a gamble. Look at what happened to Fallout... It was an RTS that one day turned into a first person shooter with its third game for like no reason at all and that became one of the best selling games of all time.

Fallout was never an RTS, it was an isometric RPG and a tactical isometric RPG. The shift to FPS was a commercial success but still shit all over the canon established by Interplay.

I wouldn't want to see OWI try to emulate that.
This concern has little merit. There is no indication that an Oddworld RTS would go out of its way to shit on the established canon of the Oddworld universe. If anything, more spin off games could be a chance to explore the world even more depending on how much of a story there is or how it's told.

And unlike Fallout, I don't think Oddworld would make a giant shift in genre and only start releasing RTS games even if they hit it off really well with one, that's not the Oddworld way. Oddworld has always been about innovation and trying new things. Some things stay, like the legendary Quicksave feature brought by Exodus, while other things are just minor experiments - some of which fail, like Munch's Oddysee. Hand of Odd, if it ever gets conceived, will always remain a simple spin off game - or series, if it succeeds.

Hell I still think Oddworld could take another shot at the 3D platform adventure format. Lorne's original vision for MO was indeed a very different kind of game.

Reading this thread, I really think we should hold off on interviewing Lorne until after Soulstorm. We haven't had any new canon in a decade; maybe we should wait until we've got some new stuff to argue over and beg clarification.
