The things that even the most well intentioned and kindest of Christians say and do on a daily basis shows that they don't really take their religion seriously. What they do take seriously is the societal norm. They confuse what is normal for their society as being what their religion says is okay. They do this because they haven't bothered reading their source material.

There is no way that if these people actually believed that they were being watched by an all knowing entity that they would live their lives the way that they do. Sex out of wedlock, smoking, drinking, cursing, cheating, conniving, lying.... You wouldn't do these things if your father was standing behind you, and you both agreed that they are wrong.

You don't understand what I'm saying. I'm not claiming that they are bad people, or that everything that I listed is wrong. I'm saying that if you really believed you were being watched, you wouldn't do them. I know you believe it on the top. But down deep, you know the truth. You know that there is no supernatural creature watching your every move. Because, again, if you thought there was, you would never do most of the things that you do. Could you masturbate while your mom was watching?

I don't and wouldn't but I don't think God literally watches over every one of us constantly, I think he turns his back because of how bad we are, not everyone but I don't like myself sometimes I am horrible.
I also think God exists although on occasion I doubt but I feel I have personal proof such as getting good grades without revising or paying attention for example.

What your doing is tailoring your idea of your religion to suit your need. If the god of your religion is real then he sees every act you perform. He is watching intently as you grip your member and shoot your semen on your belly. He sees you as you scoop his children into a kleenex and toss them into the waste basket.

I'm plenty religious. Spiritual might be more accurate, though. I was raised Catholic, but I think to strap yourself down to one belief (or Non-Belief) is reductive for a ride through life. I suppose I could say that I believe every god is real. That Yahweh and The Christian God and Allah are just some sort of omniscient pan dimensional drinking buddies is silly, but nobody can honestly say it's incorrect.

Being raised Catholic, I don't follow every word of the Bible because it's practically two thousand fucking years old. Things change, and I doubt that God ever really cared if Jews ate Bacon or people were circumcised. I think that yes, he does watch us, and yes, he doesn't want us wandering around raping and murdering, but to come down here and say "No. Spilling your seed is okay, and nothing wrong with gays, either." Would confirm our beliefs and make having faith (which is what powers him because he's also a robot powered by brain waves) unnecessary.

These debates are always so fucking stupid because everything is relative and interpretations of any religious text are totally subjective and hardcore Christians and Athiests are almost always bafflingly obnoxious.

You're misunderstanding me. I'm not making claims about what sort of person you are, and I'm not debating whether a certain act is wrong or not. Also, I don't mean this to be inflammatory in any way, though I know that it probably is. I honestly don't believe that you, or anyone that I have ever met, actually believe that god is real. I think that you think you do. I'm not calling you a liar.

I'm going to speak to Kastere's comment for a moment.
That is not what The Bible is. It is not some subjective shit built around treating people properly. It contains that occasionally, but it is a very, very small aspect of the book. However, this has become the way that it's seen. More and more, people are taking those parts of the book and running with them, leaving everything else in the dust.

Let me be clear about something. This makes me very, very happy. I am so unbelievably happy that people have negated most of this book, and latched unto the parts that make some semblance of sense in modern society. This doesn't change the fact that I don't believe that these people really believe in god, though.

I think that Jesus be he fact or fiction was a pretty cool guy, and modern interpretations of his teachings are good rules to live by.

I'm on the fence about God and spritual stuff, although I do accept and welcome the possibility.
