I'm reading The Birth of Tragedy by Friedrich Nietzsche, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and a variety of Introducing books from the Icon range including Introducing Hegel, Foucault, Advanced Mathematics, Linguistics, Buddha and Marx.

Am enjoying my stab at omnidisciplinarianism very much so.

I am reading Almost Like a Whale by Steve Jones. It’s first book I’ve read since the summer. I have to write a book review on it. It will be the first book review I’ve written since before GCSEs. It’s patronizing and too hard at the same time.

Yeah. The problem with that book is that pretty much nothing is illuminated by the end. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is much better, though heartbreakingly sad at points.

I almost wrote "I won't dignify that question with an answer", but I reconsidered since 100 things is a minute sample. It's by the mathematician John D. Barrow, and it covers a wide range of topics, nearly every one is unrelated to any other, except that their explanations or interesting highlights are all mathematical in nature. Also, each of the 100 chapters is headed by a fantastic and sometimes barely relevant quote.

The title isn't entirely accurate. I knew all about the first one. But that's it. ("Why pylons are made of triangles", but it also explained some fascinating properties of polyhedrals).

No, but I'm making this look long so people who avoid it will probably think "Oh, I guess he dies, but comes BACK! only a long answer like that would explain the size of that spoiler!"

Also, it was kind of a joke title for the first book, The second book is "John and Dave and the fifth wall." and The third is "John and Dave and the temple of X'al'Nu'th'uthu". Second and third aren't in print and only the second was online until recently.

I'm reading Gotrek and Felix: The first omnibus (a collection of three books) by Nathan Long or William King, i'm not sure which, because they both write books in the series. It's a great story, gotrek is a dwarf slayer, who is forced to seek his doom in a honorable death for an unspeakable crime. Felix is a human poet that was rioting in Altdorf (Capital of the Empire) and was attacked by cavalry. Gotrek saved him and while drunk Felix swore to write an epic poem of the seeking of Gotrek's doom. It's an epic book.

JDATE is still diahrea-inducingly funny when reading it, even at the fourth time. Temple isn't very funny except for the porcupine gun sequences, and I haven't had a chance to work on Fifth Wall. I'll have to search for it.

And yes, Cracked is not good. It is basically just lists of things attempting and coming close, but not quite touching, funny. I only go there to check for David Wong updates, which are the only things that are entertaining. I recommend all of you look for his stuff, and at least read his take on the 9/11 Loose Change conspiracy.

I'm re-reading to Kill a Mockingbird for some reason. Damn this is a good book. Yet another reason I'd beat up my Stupid Grade 9 self.

the invisible man by ralph ellison, always thought it would be beneficial to read it but i'm having trouble getting into it

oh and kastere to kill a mockingbird is one of my favs i felt the movie with gregory peck did it no justice though, peck made a great ahab!

Are you serious? That movie is a classic and one of the greatest film adaptations of a book ever made. You sir, are crrraaaazzzzzyyyyy.

in the film the scene where mrs. dubose dies is cut out, infact her entire character is ignored in the movie, the part of the book where atticus explains to jem what real courage is through her character even though she was against everything atticus believed in moved me to tears

I just started and finished in the same day The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. He's an excellent author and I enjoyed it a lot... but I wish there had been a better motivation for Jack trying to murder Bod's family. It just came across as being a little bit Voldemort in that he caused the prophecy to come true by trying to prevent it.
