Oddworld Inhabitants Inc. are today proud to announce Oddworld: Soulstorm, now being co-developed by Oddworld’s own internal teams in California and the UK; and in conjunction with Frima Studio in Québec, Canada.

A follow-up to the critically acclaimed* release of Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, Oddworld: Soulstorm picks up from Abe’s genesis and directly follows on from the overthrow of RuptureFarms and the liberation of his blighted workmates.

Having defeated Molluck The Glukkon, his former boss and RuptureFarms’ meanest inhabitant, Abe soon finds himself - along with 300 newly emancipated Mudokons - without food, water or a place to call home. Stranded alone in the desert, they find solace in a strange new brew - a delicious drink that has insidious ramifications for their newfound freedom.

"There was a deeper, darker, and more sinister story that we never got to tell," explains series creator, Lorne Lanning. "Soulstorm gives us the opportunity to flesh out more meat on the bones of an original spine, but re-tell the fable from a very different angle."

"Abe has a long way to go and plenty more adversity ahead. Soulstorm is going to be a much heavier trip for him."

Oddworld: Soulstorm will continue to chew up the themes of environmentalism, capitalism, consumerism and addiction that critics and fans found so engaging in the "AAA Indie" release of Oddworld’s last pensive platformer, New ’n’ Tasty.

"We can’t wait to show you what we’ve got planned for Soulstorm" says executive producer Bennie Terry.

"We think Oddworld fans are really going to dig what we’re brewing, and we’ve got some great surprises in store this time around we don’t think anybody’s going to predict," he added. "I've been tasting it, and it's definitely got twice the twisted flavor."

Soulstorm, the highly volatile new game from Oddworld, is slated to explode in the latter half of 2017.

This looks really cool. Like I said in other AEHD thread, it's pretty damn cool that they actually named it Soulstorm. The hype is real.

Going off of Lanning's quote, does this mean the original Exoddus story is going to be cut in two parts, with Soulstorm being the first more fleshed out half of the original Exoddus game and then having a sequel for the second part of the story where he actually goes to the brewery, etc? if that makes any sense...

I hope they dont change the original Exoddus story too much if theyre adding new elements to it, I fucking loved it but if they do change it I'm sure I'll love it even more to be honest, aslong as they stay with the dark and gritty theme they're heavily playing on in this reveal


Ontop of that, I'm willing to bet theyre reintroducing Mudombies, perhaps it was intended to be the ultimate side effect of Soulstorm brew, with drunk Mudokons just being the first stages of it?

Completely agree with Manco. Two issues with NNT have ALREADY been fixed. The name doesn't suck, and the tone is dark and sinister.

The new logo isn't particularly great, but I'm all on board with story changes. Hopefully it won't just be AO rehashed like AE was.

Are we even calling this an AE remake? It sounds like they're taking the base concept of AE's story and going in a different direction, which I'm totally all for.

So I just did a video of me reading out the page and I notice it references Abe's Exoddus at several points throughout.

My assumption is. Soulstorm is a retelling of Abe's Exoddus however it's going to be VASTLY different to the original game. It's going to be a very dark and gritty game. Maybe even a Horror. The vibe I'm getting from that page alone makes me think they're completely revamping the style and theme of Oddworld. And that is completely cool with me.

I'm actually really glad they're doing this. If AEHD was just going to be NnT but in Exoddus, I would of been a bit missed opportunity. I always felt Abe's Exoddus let itself to a more darker theme so I'm SO GLAD THEY'RE DOING THIS.

I'm frigging PUMPED.

I'm glad to see them going back into a slightly darker theme, but at the same time, I hope they don't make it too dark. Part of Oddworld's charm, at least for me, was the humor mixed in with the darker elements, and I'd like to see that balance between silly and serious maintained.

It's not a metal badge though. Also, Abe would be in Hufflepuff because he's bland and forgettable.

I don't know what to make of this logo, I don't think Lorne designed it. If he did, it would probably look more like this.
