Played Nidhogg as it was intended - totally clueless against a dude in the same room. Someone set it up at the first Computer Science Club meeting at uni. I went undefeated against a few dudes. I learned how to abuse rolls early on, but that quickly got countered so I had to find new ways to fake people out. Flying kicks are op. I like the mechanic of having to tap the fuck out of the left and right keys to go faster.

Tapping directional keys makes you go faster in Nidhogg?

Well, not faster than running.

If you tap a direction you do a little hop without changing direction, right?. If you continue to tap there's acceleration to a faster speed still without turning - it's great for going back while facing your opponent. It feels like mashing at just the right interval gives you ideal acceleration.

If you’re facing your opponent while running away, you’re playing Nidhogg wrong.

I beat Dark Souls with Vyrien. It was hard as fuck, but it was a really fun game and I'll be going onto the second one soon.

Well sometimes you need to back up, but are too close to be able to turn around without getting stabbed. It's also good when you're stuck under a low ceiling and decide it's better to bait your opponent in than try to fight out of it, or similarly need to get in a better position in a section with death pits. But yeah once you're past your opponent or whatever it's useless. Only in close-ish combat.

You figured that out in the middle of a multiplayer game?

You should try speedrunning.

I've considered learning the old Jak 3 route, from when the WR was around 40mins, before it was all about that one hover trick and weird OOBs. I wouldn't even want to be good, I'd just do it because I love the game and have some skill from playing it so much over the years. I used to love ThaRixer's runs, and that route broke the game in really fun ways.

Anyway I've been playing Quake Live a bit better lately. I'm finally getting over a bit of a mechanical hump in my game, which is nice. Here is a highlight from a few months ago.

And then there was this the other day. I don't know if this very funny without knowledge of the game, but it's a pretty silly encounter. I basically got away with murder.

Ratchet just outright doesn't work graphically on PS2 emulators, or if you play through the broken graphics it's slow as hell. Jak is playable but feels like ass and has crazy shadows. I think all of the Sly games are totally unplayable too, but 2 and 3 definitely don't work at all graphically.

I've never got a PS2 emulator to work correctly. It's just so much easier to just play on a actual console.

Tell me what you think of it when you've got some time in it, I've been thinking about getting it myself. Though I'm not sure yet if it's worth the $15 or if I should wait for a sale.

The Stanley Parable? Great writing and voice acting, but I don't think it's worth $20. It was insanely short. Firewatch? Totally worth it.

If it's anything like SOMA, yep, worth 20$. I finished SOMA in less than a day and I don't regret any of it. Fantastic game.

I traded in my 2DS for the NEW ""Nintendo"" 3DS XL. An update was released not a day earlier announcing SNES games will finally, finally, be available on a Nintendo Portable. I picked up Super Mario World immediately and regretted my eagerness a bit since Donkey Kong Country, Earthbound, Donkey Kong Country 2 and Super Metroid won't be available for about another month, and those are all I'm really interested in. If they release Earthworm Jim, Super C and the Megaman X games that would be cool too.

What a humongous gameboy this is. It's a little less broad than the Vita when it's in 'clam' mode, but unfolded it's just gigantic. The screens are huge, and for some reason you have to unscrew the back of the system to get a memory card in, but otherwise it's a great piece of hardware. The additional circle pad takes some getting used to, it calls back to the little analog nub on the original PSP.

It's funny since most games up to this point were built around people not having a second stick available, so I had to manually activate the feature in Monster Hunter. It's handy, but not being used to it is a weird handicap in some otherwise dual-stick oriented games.

It feels like a legitimate upgrade from the previous 3DS systems I've enjoyed, and I'm hoping that there are some releases that actually make use of the hardware. The extraneous shoulder buttons and second stick have yet to feel completely necessary, but I'm sure this system is just what the original 3DS was to the original DS. Hopefully Super Mario Maker makes its way onto the system, and there's really no excuse not to have a mobile library of digitized GBA games at this point.

My 3DS is just a Pokemon repository. I’ve picked up Alpha Sapphire again since I never got around to finishing that game, but I need to actually figure out where I got up to and where I need to go next before I can get back into the swing of things.
