*cough* indeed. Thanks for sharing.

What is this GHD stuff?
GHD is Good Hair Days straightening irons. They reach 100 degrees celsius in around 10 seconds, which means that they have the capacity to straighten hair instantly.

They cost around £150 per set.

Dayumn. I don't care THAT much about having straight hair. And how does one keep from completely charring one's hair using something that hot? And why do you need a set? Isn't one enough?

I think I'm just going to A) cut the hair at the back of my head to the point where it doesn't curl and B) find some sort of straightening conditioner to keep my bangs from twisting up as they dry. Long hair is cool, but curls? Ugh. Makes me look like Goldilocks.

Ok, first let me explain that when I say "a set of straighteners", I don't mean it in the sense that I'm suggesting you need more than one. I mean it as "a pair of jeans". When someone says that they need "a pair of jeans", they don't mean two jeans, they simply mean one. It's the same thing with the straighteners - they are pluralized because they are made up of two ceramic straightening irons, in the same way that the jeans are made up of two legs.

Amazingly, your hair doesn't char or burn when you pass it through straightening irons. If your hair is totally free of any shampoo, pomades, or moisture, then you run absolutely no risk of pulling any hair out, or burning any hair off. To get a good straightening effect, once the irons are clamped down on the hair, you would normally move the straighteners down the length of the hair at about 1 inch per second. But if you keep the straighteners still, they'll eventually burn your hair.

The effects of straightening your hair are truly remarkable - even people with the curliest, frizziest hair, can have perfectly smooth and straight hair. It lasts all day - or until your hair comes into contact with water. Sweat, rain, snow, hail, showers and any other contact with water or moisture will make your hair go curly again. All of which are relatively easy to avoid.

My sister has a pair of hair straighteners. When I asked her how hot they get, and she replied 200 degrees celcius in 15 seconds, I told her she must be bullshitting

We tried them out on me for kicks, but my hair is still not long enough it seems.

Oh yeah, even the cheap-ish straighteners get really hot. I've burnt inbetween my fingers many times cause I absent mindedly run my fingers through my hair after I've straightened a section of hair.

It hurts, but its never burnt me seriously!

Dinos right about the moisture making your hair go curly/wavy. It happens to me and it drives me mad cause it takes me a while to get my hair poker straight :\

I was once bullied into getting my hair straightened. This was when it was longish (for me) and bushy as hell.

It was a frightening experience and I'm glad to say that I have not photographic records of it. Think: Big... and... wide.. and... boofarama. Not quite the soft, sleek look I was hoping for.

Sleeping also causes your hair to go curly again, because as we all know, the secret mystical gorilla from the wella shockwaves advert comes to your house when you sleep and messes up your hair.

I swear by the good ceramic straighteners....totally worth the money. Of course I use mine every single day so I definitely get my money's worth!

I had long blonde hair that hit at my lower back. 2 weeks ago I cut it to just above my shoulders and died it chocolate brown. I'm sort of wishy-washy that way

only to your shoulders, but your mom wants you to cut it?

and how is it unhealthy?
Well, my mom says that I look pretty with short hair (when it reaches my ears...er.....did it sound right?)...but the point is that I never look pretty, but I feel more comfortable with long hair .
And my hair is very unhealthy, yes...it's very thin and tends to split at the end of every single one...I tried to do something about it, but failed. Even if I cut them a little, they will be splitted at the end when growing back.

My hair is approaching the longest it has been before. I intend to cut it the way I've been wanting to for ages in the next week or so, or when I'm forced to. But not until I wreck havoc with that hair straightener - I'm going Goth for a day! Woo

But currently, my hair is not long, obviously. It was from about when I was 7 until I was 13 ish. Hell- I look more like when I was six than ever. :P

My hair is pretty long. Past my shoulders in fact. It is curly/messy ans red. I dyed it. I am not ginger. I have my hair cut all the time to keep splits away. My mate has hair down to his shoulders and has never had a hair cut in his life.

How is that possible, how old is he? Surely it should be getting down to his knees by now.

This is kinda contra-topic but I'm planning on getting my hair cut short soon. It's not that long now but I can't be bothered dealing with it knotting and frizzing and any of that shit. And I use up a crapload of gel. Plus, I'm going to be leading on a camp this northern summer and I won't have much time to think about my appearance.

'I wish my moms would have let me keep my hockey mullet, though.'

Two mothers, lucky you.

And how exactly did your mother stop you from having a mullet? Did they hack it off as you slept? 'cos if they just asked then surely you could've said "Erm...no." like i'm constantly doing as of late.

Yeah, the s thing is kind of regional, along with "ma." What prissy thing do limeys say again, "mum?" I'm pretty good about listening to my mom and I didn't want to be a jerk about it. Also, even though I think mullets are the white man's afro and should be sported whenever possible I realize that 20 years ago they weren't even that popular and now they are a bit of a joke.

I've seen plenty of Sikhs. The ultra-religious ones don't cut their hair. A girl at my school has hair that she can tread on in the shower, which is why the women plait their hair and the men wear turbans.

So this guy either has immense matted dreadlocks or many plaits.

Yeah, I'm friends with one. He's a gas station attendant and hard core. Mid to late sixties and he is a shaggy mofo. He's got more beard hair than I've got hair on my whole body.

I had long-ish hair (about 5 inches which is long compared to my usual haircut) about a week ago. Until a few days ago when I went to the hairdressers to get a quick trim.

"I'm only gonna trim it and thin it out. You'll still have all the lenght when I'm done" She said.

When she finished I had a one inch long fringe and long-ish hair everywhere else. Plus the fact my hair's still red for Comic Relief. It's all been a general bad week for my hair.

I think my mum's trying to undermine my attempts at long hair. Damn her!

Shinjara, more women should openly discuss their breasts.

My hair sproings upward when it's cut. But I usually have such thick hair that it bugs me. I wanted to grow sideburns, but when someone told me I looked like Joe Dirt with them, I yepled and scrambled to shave them off.
The only hair I can't seem to control (and I think this is true for most guys my age) is my facial hair. I'm growing a small goutee and it looks like crap because I'm blonde and a whitey McWhiteboy. I usually forget about shaving and have a little stubble.
