I'm not sure why the browser based version has to be 2D.
The 3D interface never worked for me anyway, so I'm fine with it. Plus, one of the keys to creating a successful service is simplicity. The less purely-aesthetic crap a page needs to load to function, the better.

Yeah, would be awesome for them to get that sign back. A lovely little piece of history that would decorate an office nicely.
