But isnt that called something different? Like how league of legends is a 'DOTA clone', rather than a dota successor. And how games are referred to as 'Roguelikes' when they are similar to rogue?
A clone is when the game offers no real change from the game it borrows ideas from, a spiritual successor is when a game is made in the style of another but with added ideas, mechanics, or something else that actually makes it a new game.

That's just my opinion though.

I've finished Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for N64. It's a game about a legend, princess Zelda and the Ocarina of Time. There are people here at OWF who completely adore this game and I can see why...

...but 10/10? Hell no! It doesn't hold up well in today's standard. What I mean by it is that the controls can be awful at times. The First-person aiming is so awful you can't even hit anything. The platforming sections are awfully painful and frustrating. You jump into abysses and die over and over and over again not of your fault but because the character turned too much/too little why moving. Also, fuck Navi, I'm so glad that at the end of the game she decided to fly away from Link into the sun and quite possibly burn to death. Also, the game, while it usually doesn't, sometimes can leave you clueless about what you should be doing/what it requires of you to do. Also, the game's story is very plotholed. I think the ending doesn't even make sense. Also, you need to break hearts of at least two ladies to complete the game. It's inhumane! Who thought it was a good idea?!

Great game. Recommended.

The reason why OoT is regarded as the best Zelda game in many people's eyes is because it holds a lot of nostalgia. It also did set many of the standards for 3D Zelda games.

yeah I agree, It's a bit dated. But it's still an incredible game. I love to replay it from time to time.

Anyone who's played CPMA might appreciate this, otherwise there's next to no contex.

I'd also really appreciate it if people would mindlessly upvote my guide, because the community are cunts and haven't given me enough ratings yet. Nobody's clicking because it has no stars

I forgot to mention that Ocarina has a particularly weak start. It took me three attempts (from the beginning) to finally beat the first few levels and start being interested in completing the game. Also, fuck tutorials and owls. They should've keep the text space wasted on overly-careful tutorials for moments in later game when I really didn't know what to do. I'm looking at you, Navi.

The beginning of Majora's Mask, however... now that's a completely different story

Ocarina of Time, like Mario 64, basically created the genre of 3d platforming/adventure games. You can't expect it to have all the controls that have been refined over the past few decades. That would just be silly.

Yes, but the Crash games were straight forward, linear pieces of shit, so my point is still very valid.

You're a linear piece of shit. And you're wrong. Nothing held ocarina devs to make a bit more fluid movement system

E: Damn you speedy shits

Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time were fully 3D with a moveable camera. And were the first games to really define that. Especially Mario 64, which was released in 1997 in Japan. Pre dating Crash, Spyro and many other 3D games.

You also have to take into account that the Nintendo 64 wasn't very powerful. From a technical standpoint. It was inferior compared to the PlayStation in every way. It still used carts, and the games ran at around 20 FPS. So no wonder the 3D games wasn't very fluid.

You have to concede that there were technology constraints, and that they were just starting to figure this shit out. I mean, come on. I'm not even that nostalgic about the game. It is not my favorite Zelda by a long shot. But it was a damn marvel of technology at the time it came out.

Well the controls aged a bit, then.

I'm currently playing Majora's Mask. I'm loving the game so far, I've beaten the first giant of four. The game feels better in every aspect than Ocarina.

Please don't ask that sort of question in a thread where it's off topic. It's much better to PM a mod.

But to answer the question: It means that someone has given you neg-rep. You can see the reps that you have recieved by clicking on the 'UserCP' link at the top of the page.

I'm afraid that is correct. (Though I've never watched Seinfield.) But maybe not 100% correct. Ocarina of Time as well as Majora's Mask have a feel I rarely experience in similar games, that sense of mystery and adventure. It does have some simple puzzles that the player must figure out himself, and exploring. New games just hold your hand throughout the whole game, which takes away some or most of the experience.

It's just the controls that are frustrating. And Navi. Assuming that the first thing is a product of unpolished-at-the-time technology, I guess I can live with that. I can also live with Navi being annoying piece of shit , because I believe she died a horrible death in fire at the end and it was satisfying. I don't have any major complaints besides those. I found the game great and fun.

Btw. Flying as a Deku in Majora's Mask (trying not to use the acronym) is really fun and not frustrating at all. The jumping sections are also much comfortable, but yes, it's because of improved camera which rotates in a way making it less possible to unintentionally jump to death

I'm loving BoI:Rebirth, too. I got my second mum kill the other day. Azazel is fucking amazing. I really want Judas though, because he was my favourite from the original.

I got that special boss rush room for beating Mum 1 in under 20 minutes for the first time a few days ago, too. I made it through 7 rounds, of 2-3 bosses, but Monstro II + Gish took me down in the end, which was pretty anticlimactic really. That off-screen laser beam is pretty brutal though. I seem to get the boss rush room almost every run now, but I haven't taken it again since. I have no desire to slog through all of that any time soon. It's really intense.

Rebirth is everything that made the original great, and so much more. Must buy for fans of BoI, and must try for everyone else. Especially MM, once he gets his shit together at collage!

e: Just got my 3rd kill on mum's heart. Was tempted to go down to Sheol, because I had 6 base health, the book of revelations and some pretty powerful followers. Lil' Haunt made short work of Mom's heart, it was awesome to watch.

I only just realised what the ball of bandages is this run too, because I finally picked up more than just the one in a run. I felt a bit silly, and I was wondering where the cubes of meat were hiding with all of the horsemen I was killing.

Azazel is really fucking powerful though.

i only just got azazel, after 30 hours cuz everytime I got HP items i never got deals with the devil and every time I got Deals with the devil i had no HP. Just got my 3rd moms heart kill as well, and Ive fought satan twice but not much luck there. I never played or watched much of the original, so this was mostly blind for me.

the first time i did the boss rush I had Chocalate milk + Mega tears + Flaming tears, so I 2 shot almost every boss. I got to the final wave, but lost to headless horseman and the fallen. The second time I did it was in the Slow roll challenge. I pretty much 1 shot every boss in that challenge. was really fun.

I've recently got back into Pokemon X, what with the gen 3 remakes out soon.

Wonder Trade is super additive. Like holy crap. For those who don't know. Wonder trading is trading Pokemon over the web for another complete random one. Not only is it rewarding at times, it's fun to see what you get. I've already got 2 shiny Pokemon (Moltres and Milotic) and a bunch of high levelled pokemon.

And speaking of Shiny Pokemon. I've been trying you a few methods in order to make them easier to catch. I've had a lot of success with Chain Fishing. I've caught 4 shinies so far.

I'm waiting for a sale. I don't have a job, and I have like 150 unplayed games in my Steam account, so it's really difficult to justify buying new games at full price.

I don't have a computer at the moment since I punched my laptop to death, so I've been playing a lot of mobile games. It's hard to find any that aren't total shit, but this one called ALONE is pretty neat and I can't stop playing it.

You need to steer your rocketship to avoid obstacles as it zooms along through what appears to be an asteroid field with the remains of spaceships and such floating about in it. The controls are simple, but also hella sensitive, and if you flick your thumb up even slightly too much you can send yourself flying into the ceiling in an instant - and as the game progresses you'll find yourself having to zip around faster and faster to be able to survive. It's visually appealing and also hard as balls; the basic difficulty is called Veteran and I haven't managed to unlock the next out of four more yet.

I can't stop playing Dark Souls. I finally worked up the courage to tackle Blightown, and now I'm just completely sucked into this world/character. I'm still pretty bad, dying often and wasting a lot of materials, but I guess experimentation's part of the proccess. And I fucking love it.

Except when I get so frustrated on my main with the fat man sitting on me while his electric dildo buddy prods and jabs me with sharp lightning rods that I have to go play on a lowbie character, hoping for a new class and new mode of playing... only to revert to old shield tactics because, well, the game is fucking impossible without one. I am enjoying bashing baddies over the head with maces though, nice refresher from the Halberd's Only club.

But I just don't find thief characters with shields to be, well... right. Maybe all those years of playing WoW have taken a stupid toll on my fantasy ideals. I wanna dual wield, but parrying is hard and mobs of enemies absolutely gangbang me every time. Fuck.

But that's why I love this game. From where I'm sitting it looks like the learning, tinkering and mastering will never end. What a perfect formula. And I haven't even touched the online play. Oh man. I haven't been this thrilled and enthused by a game in a while.

Today I've heard about this particular game:

The reason I've heard about it is because the developers posted some free steam codes for the game... on the pirate bay, under its torrent. They thanked for the interest and said they hope it'll convince some people to actually buy the game. I got certainly interested in seeing what the fuzz was all about... and...

This game is very good. Very, very good. I was totally surprised how good the game is. You should all buy it. It's thematically similar to Papers, Please, but the gameplay has some economics/stealth/combat mechanics and there are choices and concequences and stuff. YES, IT EVEN HAS STUFF. The production values are pretty high and so far I can only complain about a few minor bugs, but the game is still being patched. MeechMunchie will love this game.

Yeah, I posted the trailer in Upcoming Games back when they announced it.

See above for why I won't be playing it for like three years. I still haven't played Papers, Please, and I actually own that one.
