It might be an old-as-antiques arguement, but it's a valid one. That's why people use it.

That argument nails you to the position that ilegalizing both of them would be satisfactory though. You should be trying to legalize weed independently of its legal relationship to tobacco, otherwise the argument is very weak.

I'm saying the roles should be reversed. I know cigarettes will never, ever become illegal, nor that they really should, but they certainly deserve it more than marijuana.

Marijuana has been known to help people. It may have also been known to send people down a dark path, but that's mostly due to the persons surroundings and personality.
All that cigarettes have really done is fill the governments pockets with money (which isn't neccesarily a bad thing, but at what cost?), temporarily relieve people from a bit of stress, and give some people cancer.

personally i think alcohol is worse than green. i've been there when i've drunk myself into a stupor and want to kill myself. what's fun about that? but obviously that means alcohol isn't the drug for me, and i finally realised that. why can't people do the same with weed? it's no more a drug than tobacco.

i could handle alcohol, but it didn't suit me, it made me feel terrible, but i continued to drink it and get worse because it was the only legal recreational drug worth while. if weed had already been legal, i would have tried that after alcohol and thought "well, i prefer this to that other depressing shit". it's all down to the person taking it. drugs are natural, good and bad, that's why they exist. yes, not all of them are amazing, some are terrible and life-destroying. weed? nah, not really. can you really say that in comparison to heroin, crack, cocaine and alcohol that weed will 'destroy your life' and keep a straight face? it sounds like some 50's anti-drug propaganda.

almost everyone has at least tried weed once in their life. well, unfortunately they broke the law. that's a fact. this isn't a game of cops and robbers. if something is illegal, it's illegal and you will be punished if they find out. people choose to ignore that, like it's acceptable for it to be illegal and yet acceptable to try it once. how fucking hypocritical. so that night when you tried it for the first time, maybe on your own or with friends, what if that night the coppers bashed your fucking door down and arrested you, and you didn't get away with it? they don't give a shit that it's your first time and you were just curious because they've got you in a corner. it's easier if you just go along with the ride. and it isn't fair. not at all. it's wrong. you've got to agree with me there. in my mind it's like being arrested for making a cup of coffee or cracking open a beer. let's get our freedom of choice back.

take a look at this documentary if you're seriously interested in this discussion, watch the whole thing, it isn't boring. it explains a lot, more than i can type up, and it's easier and more fun than reading foreboding walls of text. also, it's less biased and more intelligent than my rants.

:
Now, back in my mid to late teens, I dabbled in drug taking. The lifestyle popped up again early last year or so but I've kicked it completely.

Drugs should not be legalised, even mellow inducing shit like weed has long time problems. I've seen the worst it can do to people.

Plus, I can't stand stoners. Obnoxious cunts.
oh cheer up you miserable fucking cunt. "drugs should not be legalised", let's illegalise your demon juice and see how far you get.

:
I wish people would stop holding onto the "Alcohol is legal, so weed should be too!" Considering that alcohol causes thousands of deaths due to drunk driving every year, it's not something you'd want to associate with something you want to become legal. Note that I'm not saying weed would cause more accidents, but hopefully you all will see how terrible a fucking argument it is.

It's almost as bad as the "weed is a natural thing, man" argument.

Almost.
nothing to do with alcohol, there isn't even a link. the point i am arguing personally is why should something become illegalised permanently even after further testing and research has been carried out successfully since it's illegalisation, a lot of it proving to be, basically, some wonder drug that has many great possibilities on both the human being and industry, and yet still remain illegal? it's insanity.

:
It's not about the potential harm, it's about the freedom of choice.
exactly. you know what i'm talking about. who has the right to dictate what we can and can't do? these are basic human rights. i'm sick of being under the boot of bigger, richer people, living by their fairytale rules. money, the root of all evil. it's the truth, let's hurry up and accept it and think about what to do next.

:
If driving under the influence only harmed the user then I'd be its greatest advocate.
absolutely. but what is your point?

:
If they legalise weed, any subsequent health defects shouldn't be treated through NHS subsidy. Pay for it yourself. Same with alcohol and smoking though.
fair enough. did you know a shit ton of money goes into the NHS via smokers smoking/buying cigarettes? but officials tend to gloss over that hoping you won't notice, and dance around the question. apparently you have to contact HM Treasury if you want to know the exact amount of smoker money funding the NHS, but i doubt they'd give you an accurate figure, if any at all.

:

yes, exactly. but just replace 'marijuana' with alcohol or any other drug. it's exactly the same scenario. all recreational drugs at different levels, there's no difference.

apologies for the looooooong post.

Actually, it kind of makes sense that you should, you know, be prepared to accept consequences of your actions. Arguing that marijuana should be legal is one thing, but if you're asking me if you should accept the risk of being arrested for breaking the law? Yeah, you fucking should.

But he wasn't saying you shouldn't accept the risk of being arrested should you break the law. He was saying that it's wrong that this particular law's there to begin with.

i shouldn't even have to reply to this. of course i didn't mean countries in which it is already legal/acceptable/whatever. i was of course talking about the nations that already have it illegalised. i thought that much was obvious, unless you really think i'm actually that stupid. if i was i'd probably be on the same par as you. use your fucking head.

Can you imagine the police breaking into someones house to arrest a couple of stoners? What a fucking joke. Then again, it could probably explain the rest of the troubles in the streets.

I'd just like to point out to Nemo that MA is indeed right, the generation before mine, something like 1 in 6 people tried weed at least once, in my generation that number has gone down to something akin to 1 in 3, bare in mind that in these tests there are going to be a few people who say they haven't smoked when they have because they fear any repercussions.

And you've actually completely missed what little point I had in that sentence.

No, not "almost everyone" has tried marijuana.

No, those that have have not necessarily tried it illegally.

No, it's not a fact. It's not even a statistic. It's something you've pulled out of your god damn ass.

In your entire post, you failed to provide an actual fucking argument. It was just one long god damn anecdote. But hey, at least you posted a video I'm not interested in watching. Maybe they actually made a good point or two. Can't say the same for you.

Give Britain 60 years and maybe now it'll be legalised here to. We just have to be certain that enough time has passed to make legalising it behind the times of the rest of the world.

What reserves? Legally we can't have any reserves. It is illegal to grow the stuff here for commercial purposes.

Yes, and I'm sure there are absolutely no illegal reserves in your country at all!

Nope it all just manifests from the air. When a customer in Netherlands buys weed, the air goes *poof* and there it is

Funny thing is, the drugs that are legal in this country should be class A in some cases. Here you can buy horse tranquilliser as a legal high, I forget the actual name. One shot knocks you out and can shrink your kidneys so that you become incontinent. According to someone who did some drugs education with us (a recovering heroin/cocaine/weed addict), he knows some girls who have to wear adult nappies after taking it because they piss themselves throughout the day.
