Post Stormbreaker/Operation Stormbreaker

So, has anyone seen the new film Stormbreaker yet? I just returned from viewing it 20 minutes ago. Its excellent, very like a super long episode of Spooks. It just came out in my current area, but I think it came a little earlier in the good old US of A and my homeland, the UK. Great music, great action, great acting, great film. Although it does deviate from the book a bit. For instance, the villain was originally a Lebanese guy, but they changed him to an American guy. Also, the heroes girlfriend is introduced three books early, although she does lend a nice comedic touch to the film. And I can understand why they changed the villain's race. In the novel, the villain came off like a racist stereotype of Lebanese people. In the movie, he's just a stereotype of trailer trash, and even trailer trash people don't care about trailer trash people being stereotyped.

Yes, I saw this quite a while back.

It was absolutely terrible. Really, really bad. But in the most fantastic way! It was a whole world of fun, in a similar vein as Snakes on the Plane-type dumb fun. But this was better because it wasn't trying to be bad.

Goddamn hideous piece of work, and absolutely unmissable [made-up word]!

Oh, and it is NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING like Spooks.

I don't know. British secret intelligence agency investigating and tackling suspected terrorists and sometimes getting into disputes with the Prime Minister. The only real difference IMO is Spooks rarely goes out of Britain and there are no major teenaged characters in Spooks.

I considered seeing this one for the sole reason that the main character is hot. But the reviews were fairly shocking so I didn't bother

Still, you can't really say that any spy movie is similar to Spooks. If anything, Alex Ryder is a teenage James Bond - improbable gadgets and all.

Yes, I mean, it is just utterly and completely different to Spooks. Tonally, plot-wise, aesthetically.

It's just a Young James Bond, with the mentality to match. And yeah, the main character (Alex Pettyfer) is a beautiful guy.

Highly recommended.

The book was shit. I won't see the movie ever, except maybe on a drunken new year when my eyelids are glued shut by the pure alcohol glazing my eyes.

It was really good. I thought it was going to be your typical lame Child-turned Secret Agent movie, but to my suprise, it wasn't. There was only one bit that was utterly crap and that was the fight that the nanny and the woman in leathers had, because that scene seemed to be aimed for a four year old audience.

Oh, and the best part was it was filmed on the Isle of Man

WHAT?!?!? That was one of the BEST bits!

The more ludicrous the movie got the more happy I became.

The absolute nadir had to be that fight in the scrap-car place where the gruff workmen get into an inexplicable fight. Brilliant!

Nah, its actually about a teenager turned spy. Which can be worse, but it isn't in this case.

I didn't even know it was about that, but that makes it sound even worse.
