NnT sales question.

hello all, this is my first proper thread as such, so I apologise ahead if I've either posted this in the wrong place, or had been answered elsewhere.

A thought came to mind the other day, whilst my cousin was playing NnT, and mentioned to me that it was free to Ps plus subscribers, immediately I thought, that the next oddworld game was holey dependent on the sales for NnT? How accurate is this? And secondly, what is the deal they have with PlayStation to give away the title for free? Is this beneficial to oddworld? And effect the sales?

It is dependent, obviously, as the devs need money to fund future project. Dunno about PS, they might probably have some kind of deal and get money from that. As for the sales, no sale numbers were shown publicly.

Of course, I just thought it odd to give away the game free if future projects were dependent on these sales. It would be interesting to know, of course, I understand not showing the public the sales figures, but interesting (in a positive way) non the less. Party my feeble brain couldn't work it out aha, as I'd love to see the quintology, as would most, continue

This is something I was wondering about as well - I mentioned it on the NnT PC impressions thread but it got overlooked.

(Oh and welcome, OddSocks)

A momentarily lapse in my observational skills made me forget about the pc release altogether, I would imagine the sales of pc games too add to the funds etc.

Oh and Thankyou kindly, darkhoodness

I just hope it sells well enough to warrant a remake of Exoddus. That would be the dankest, tightest tight dank.

Seriously though, Exoddus is one of my top 5ish games ever and the sheer thought of it getting the NnT treatment gets me all sorts of moist.

With PS plus, Sony provides compensation for having the game free. What that is, is probably dependent on the developer.

But that said, Oddworld had to approve of this happening, so I would assume that the deal was beneficial to them. Also, I heard that the PS plus version of New n Tasty for PS4 isnt cross buy. Meaning that if u get it from Plus you only get it for PS4. If you buy it outright u get the ps3 and vita versions for free.

I expect it won't include the Scrub Abe skin or Alf's Escape either. Considering Oddworld is starting to gain more exposure again, the free PS+ version could certainly help introduce gamers who wouldn't otherwise have bought the game- and those perhaps on the fence about giving it a go. If and when an Exoddus remake comes along, there would be a lot more gamers who played New n' Tasty and loved it, who would buy the sequel day one.

I have friends who like Oddworld, have played the original games when they were kids and enjoyed them, but would never be interested enough to bother to buy the new ones. But they'd definitely download them for free! If they get hooked, I'm sure they'd buy the DLC and Exoddus eventually.

As Shade667 said, Sony offer devs something in return for the promotion, which JAW/OWI will have agreed to. Not to mention it bumps Oddworld back into the spotlight again. I'm sure the promotion will be worth it

I see. So that been said then, I wonder if each free download, is considered a sale depending on the deal they have with Ps.

Haha, I couldn't agree more, and I can relate to that too...

Besides the point of getting moist, I was completely blown away by exoddus, as I had loved oddysee and basically (at the time) wanted to see more of the same, and exoddus did that for me to the last, beautiful detail. NnT exoddus would be stunning, and epic too

It doesnt include scrub abe or alfs escape. They were pre-order bonuses on PS4 in the US, and were free for PS plus the first week they were out in the EU.

Couldn't have said it better. I feel it's a brilliant thing to give NnT for free to PlayStation plus users:
- Most of those who would have bought the game on PS4 would have done it by now anyway
- Excellent way to hook back people who wouldn't have bought it but still have some remote interest for the game/universe. And if they like NnT then the might consider buying the AE remake.
- Timing is superb with regards to the PC release. The press talks about it right about the time where NnT is released on PC which is free exposure to the new release.
- OWI and JAW make money out of this deal as Sony has to pay them for it. It's probably not a compensation per unit but it's still definitely a non negligible amount.
