San Andreas was released in 2004; you must be thinking of GTA IV.

SA is still as fun as it ever was though despite its age... I've always wanted the PC version of it. £3 is an awesome deal.

Oh and Oddhunter - If you have the professional version of Windows 7, almost anything will be able to run on it.

Picked up Splosion Man again, some parts are still mind numbingly frustrating, but its fun for the most part. Played a bit of Reach, got a free copy of it. Just waiting until I can play some Gears 3 beta. Everything I have heard and seen about it seems like a return to form.

Only Home Premium. Then again, Deus Ex and Half-Life 1 both worked out of the box with no tweaking, and adding some updates to DX (to account for my modern monitor/mouse) was easy as hell, so I can't imagine it'll be that bad.

What I meant was, age alone doesn't make it a classic.

And no, I never enjoyed the Sonic franchise.

So, what else are you going to judge it on?

Critical reception? GTA: SA - 95/100
Public reception? I'd wager the vast majority of people who play games have heard of/played SA, and most of them would enjoy it/have fond memories of it. It's a very highly regarded game, to the point where a lot of people say they enjoyed it more than GTA IV.
Popularity? It's the third best-selling game of all time.

If GTA:SA isn't a classic, do tell what your retarded definition of a classic is.

:
And no, I never enjoyed the Sonic franchise.
You are a heartless person.

Well it needs to be innovative for a start and GTA:SA was not that. Everything in that game has been done before except for have liaisons with prostitutes and then kill them to get your money back... I wouldn't base that to be ground breaking enough for it to be considered a classic.

And whilst it has the popularity and sales down I wouldn't think it was popular only because it was a good game. If we break down the ratio of the sales it was bought mostly by wiggers who wanted to drive cars really fast and mow down hoes. Hell, I'd say that a majority of the cunts didn't even finish the game. It was also very brown. Silage brown even.

At the end of the day, San Andreas didn't bring anything new to the table and that's why I don't consider it to be a classic.

Classic != innovative. If a game is good enough that people remember it, enjoy it and still consider it a good game seven years later, it has every right to be called a classic.

Other additions and changes

Other new features and changes from previous Grand Theft Auto games include:
  • Gang wars: Battles with enemy gangs are prompted whenever the player (either alone or accompanied by fellow Grove Street Families members) ventures into enemy territory and kills at least three gang members. If the player then survives three waves of enemies, the territory will be won and fellow gang members will begin wandering the streets of these areas. The more territory owned by the player, the more money that will be generated. Occasionally, the player's territory will come under attack from enemy gangs and defeating them will be necessary to retain these areas. Once all marked territories are claimed from one of the two other gangs for the Grove Street Families that gang can no longer attack, once you get all the territories none can come under attack.[23]
  • Car modification: Most automobiles in the game can be modified and upgraded at various garages. All car mods are strictly visual apart from a nitrous oxide system which gives the car a speed boost when activated; and hydraulics, which lowers the car's height by default and allows the player to control various aspects of the car's suspension. Other common modifications include paintjobs, rims, body kits, side skirts, bumpers and stereo system upgrades.
  • Burglary: Continuing the series' tradition of controversy, home invasion is included as a potential money-making activity.[24] By stealing a burglary van, CJ is able to sneak into a residence at night, and cart off valuables or shake down the occupants.
  • Minigames: Numerous minigames are also available for play in San Andreas, including basketball, pool, rhythm-based challenges (dancing and 'bouncing' lowriders with hydraulics), and video game machines that pay homage to classic arcade games. In addition, there are the aforementioned casino games and methods of gambling, such as betting on virtual horse races.[25]
  • Money: The money system has been expanded upon, compared to previous titles. Players can spend their cash on gambling, tattoos, meals, etc. Excessive gambling loss can force the player to sink into debt, which is shown in red negative numbers. When the player leaves a safehouse, CJ gets an unexpected call and a mysterious person tells him about his debts. Four gang members suddenly appear and shoot Carl on sight if he does not erase the debt when the mysterious person calls him a second time.
  • Multiplayer: Rampages have been modified to allow two players to complete them. The players are both shown simultaneously on the screen, meaning they must stay within close proximity of each other. The multiplayer Rampages were removed from the PC version of the game. However, for the PC version, there are also online multiplayer mods called Multi Theft Auto: San Andreas and San Andreas Multiplayer (SA-MP) which allow players to connect with hundreds of people online through various servers and fan-made game modes.

Who cares why people bought the game? The fact is that lots of people bought and enjoyed it. The fact that it appealed to more than just one market segment doesn't somehow change that.

What? Does that mean that if I had an obscure game that a few people globally has heard of and I still like/play it seven years from now it's a classic? That just means that personal opinions base what makes a game a classic. Games should be considered to be classic by shit they brought to the table.

Like the Prince of Persia: Sands of time. That should be considered a classic even though it's a year older than San Andreas. It brought the element of time control into the gaming industry. It set standards for games that used the time control and have influenced these games possibly to add this feature.

:

And what, they were new to the GTA series, that's called development. These things have been in the games industry since before GTA. Because it's improved it should be a classic?

And because people bought the game they enjoyed it? Have they told you this. As I mentioned, I think personal opinions should not be counted on whether something should be considered a classic game, sales could have a bit of an influence but at the end of the day it was bought because it was a sequel to a very popular franchise.

Shut the fuck up about San Andreas already. Both of you.

I'm now playing RDR and trying to do most of the stranger missions and the challenges. I just now found out the game has snakes, hah!

If I was to buy a Saints Row game, is the first worth getting or should I move straight on to the second?

They're both enjoyable. Though I haven't played SR2 for very long. Saints Row: The Third is coming out somewhere this year, looks promising.

Second.

Play the first for story mainly, it's not as fun as the second.

In the second, you can create the most effeminate male if you're patient, and top him off with a tough-black-guy voice. I looked so out of place with my roving gang of homies, latinos, hoes and wiggers.

Not to mention to jump on the hood of an oncoming police car and surf that bitch before they slam the brakes and burn your ass with pepo-spray.

I honestly think even as a Beta that gears 3 in its current state is extremely balanced. The only comment I can make is toning down the Retro Lancer and Double Barreled Shotgun. I thought someone was shooting me with a turret when it was the retro lancer, and you don't even need to aim to get a kill with the DBS, if they are on your screen they die. Still though, I can honestly say its as fun, if not more so, than Gears 1 was. I can't help but shudder at all the suggestions on the Epic Games Forum trying to ruin it. I hope Epic just says fuck it and doesn't listen to them.
