Please Help! 3 attempts & 8 years later

Hi everyone
I am having a big problem playing abes oddworld the part is in Stockyard Escape screen No. E1P01C02 as soon as i enter the screen the mine blows up and me with it. I have tried everything from walking, sneeking, rolling, running then jumping over the mine, I have looked at walkthroughs and all they say is just walk up next to the mine and jump over it but I can't even do that, as soon as I enter the screen the mine blows. So frustrating I'm thinking there is a glitch in it somewhere this is the PC version, anywhere else in the game I can walk right next to a mine and simply jump over it but it is this one screen that is not letting me do it. 3 times in 8 years I have come back to playing this game and the same thing always happens. Had a look on this forum and couldn't find anything to do with this so this is the last hope. Thanks if you can help.

could you maybe provide us with a screenshot of the situation? That will help a lot more in knowing what we need to help you with.

Here are the images the first one is when he enters the screen and the exact spot where he is standing in image 1, is when the mine detonates. It's difficult to take a snapshot of it because the mine blows as soon as abe enters the screen.

Try running and jumping as soon as you get to the end of the screen that carries you into the exploding mine? Or just jumping at the edge of it. If all else fails...

How 'bout you just start a new game?

Wow, for a second there, I thought that you were talking about the place later on with the 3 floating mines.....that one is very annoying.

Okay, first off, welcome to the Oddworld Forums!

Yes, this is a definate glitch that you have here. Have you ever tried going into the screen and then rapidly out again?
If not, try that, and if that doesn't work (But try it in all different ways, like running, jumping or rolling on and then off of the screen) then try to find a Rock Sack and toss a Rock from the other screen and hope that you hit it. This should work, but I'm actually not sure if there are any Rock Sacks before this area.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Then restarting the level.

If all else fails, perhaps someone could give you a savegame from the nearest savepoint after that.

I've tried everything that's been mentioned above. run into the screen and quickly try to get out, roll into screen and try quickly to get out. I've run and jumped, everything I can think off I've tried. I've uninstalled reinstalled over 8 years I've had this game I've refomatted the computer a number of times in that 8 years but always the same thing. Like you say cullen health I believe it is a glitch. I do know that all the information runs from the CD and not the Hard Drive does it not? maybe, I'm thinking that there is an error on the cd. I Might save it as an ISO file and mount the image on the hard drive if there is an error on the cd it should tell me when I create the image file. I'll post back.

Ok, wait. So you get to the screen and as soon as the image of that screen appears the bomb blows? Or when you press a button (eg Left)?

yes that is right oddveteran as soon as I enter the screen the bomb blows I walk in and stop boom goes the bomb. when I enter the screen I don't touch anything but it still blows.

well I created an iso of the disc and it came up no errors, mounted the image and played it that way ( I had to use the cheat to get to the stockyards) but it still did it. I did this on a 2nd computer one that doesn't have oddworld on it so it is a new install. totally at a loss. Anyone got a save for just after that part please email it to me. Would be greatly appreciated.

I've looked at buying a new one I'm pretty sure they'd be dirt cheap. The problem with buying a new cd is that I can't find any, here where I live anyway.

mistur is right in saying run and jump. the ledge is grabbable. yeah the slig will wake up but he will walk about. climb up with his back turned and head into shadows.

I live in Brisbane Australia, the variety stores like KMart and Big W sell some cheap games. Electronics Boutique are pretty good as well and that's about it for finding Games. But yeah, haven't found Abes Oddysee. It sucks as well that two of the Oddworld games are X Box exclusive PC is the only machine I will ever play games on.

The is one of the strangest glitches I've seen. I can't see what's triggering the mine. It's not like you messed up, or didn't sneak, or the slig shot it, or some other "well, maybe" reason. I'll try to get a save emailed off, just incase I'm quicker than oddveteran93.

OK panther. I'm emailing the savgame as we speak. Just put it in your folder where all the other .sav files are. it's called a1.sav. Just load it from the menu. I mean you know wwhat to do. it's saved two screens away from the one you're having problems with

Then try and go back to that screen. It should be interesting to see whether the mine explodes when you enter from the other side.

Thanks for the save oddveteren but unfortunetly every screen I go into after that screen that has a mine in it the mine explodes as soon as i enter the screen. I've included an image of a couple of screens after that. U can see abe (on the bottom right crouching) is nowhere near the mine when it explodes. Ah well .

Why didn't I go on this thread before? Just cheat death! Input this: for invincibility, press + R1 + Circle + Triangle + Square + X + Down, and once you have passed it, just input it again and you'll have cheated death!

Cheats are for those who don't know how to play a game propertly, in my opinion. The purpose of a game is to solve the challenge, not to mess it up. Anyway, how does that help? He plays AO on the computer, not the PS.

1. Cheats are for who want them.
2. I didn't know that, and no smart remarks like he said it on a post before. And besides...it's up to him what he chooses,and ignore me. This is not like me to go on. I normally quickly get off the thread.

SligStorm!!! At least EVERY SINGLE MEMBER has told you at least once to improve on your Grammar! It really gets annoying to read this poor crap that's barely legible. I have to strain to read your posts!

I know I might seem like I'm being harsh at the moment, but all you need to do is to take the extra 20 seconds to make your stuff legible! It's NOT a hard thing to do! PLEASE, for the sake of me popping a vein by trying to read your typing, just correct yourself and TRY to spell correctly and have some decent Grammar!

It's not like he's ruining your life. Why are you screaming at the poor guy? Word, not cool. Now, I know he needs to work on grammar, but this isn't the first time someone's done this.
