Yes they are from early builds of the game for the manual. The same thing happened with Doom I.

I'm sure they're easily replicable using the exiting level editors. The top one looks like it was done in an image editor though.

These are most likely stills that were created based on levels of the game purely for publicity purposes.. and i'm almost certain these are not in-game snapshots.

Remember PSX Abe's Exoddus demo? At end there was some screen shots too... in one it said "Now Leaving, Tunnel 3" like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHa_E...tailpage#t=81s (This area is playable in Abe's Exoddus Demo, but with cheat tools)

Maybe this beta was once in testing or something? (Don't know)

I don't know about the first screen. OWI released some high quality screenshots with uncompressed graphics, but if I recall those are from AE. I think they're on TOGG somewhere.

There were several screenshots akin to the ones featured at the top of this thread for Abe's Exoddus. You can find several of them at the end of the Demo for Abe's Exoddus (Have a look on youtube.. there's several uploads of them) Several screen are almost identical and others slightly resemble others.. then you have the downright different ones. The ones not featured on the Demo are available on TOGG.

This one always stuck out in my mind for years..


Very different from the final entrance to Feeco.. and the Mudokons are similar to the ones featured on the first screenshot in this thread. This leads me to believe these screenshots used CAM images as backgrounds and then placed uncompressed still sprites on top to simulate gameplay.. You will find several of these screenshots contain extra enemies plastered all over the screen to make the game look more big and exciting.

Actually, that's a better theory than mine. Still backgrounds, uncompressed sprites plastered over. Those super-smooth muds look a tad out of place next to that text.

Didn't we get a preliminary look at what the Scrabanian temple looked like in Abe HD last year? I'd contest as to whether that looked better than the above screen.

They were not gameplay screenshots, I know the screenshot of Feeco isn't either but it represents the gameplay.

Only now do I see the eye placement for what it really is - the low resolution sprites made the dark bits above his eye look like his eye... i've thought that for years o3o

The Scrabanian Temple was nothing to do with the production of Abe HD. Just pretend you never saw it like I wish I could pretend nobody ever put it on Facebook with a fake description.
