Yeah, the bed function is incredibly useful - Shame you can't customise the bed colour yet, though.
The new lighting effects are awesome too - Although I get the feeling that daylight should be a lot brighter. You can turn off the new effects in the video settings if you don't like them.

Beds are incredibly useful. You can go to sleep before monsters spawn, so when I'm exploring for timber or clay or whatever I just whack it down when it starts to get dark.
As for the new lighting, I really like it. Landscapes viewed from a height especially look much better with it.
Anyway... ghasts SUCK, man! They are the worst sons of bitches that I've ever fucking seen. I hate their fucking non-solid fucking guts, the pussies. They stopped my portal and then another one appeared and screwed with my fucking Nether when I went back. Goddamn.
My house is just about finished (I want a gold-and-diamond tile floor, but that's going to take a while), and I'm slowly working on a big brick lighthouse. I need more clay, though - it's a bitch to find and get back with. I have a compass, now, though, so I should be good.
My world was erased AGAIN recently, and this time I was unable to find my buildings again as has happened the previous four or five times. They may have been around somewhere, but I'd backed up earlier that day so I just reverted. I lost my safe area that I made in the Nether (and the ugly second portal, thankfully) but nothing else.
So yeah. Make backups, guys! And also, now that there's no limit on slots, we should be able to share our worlds! I'll do some cool stuff with mine and see if I can add to my brother's computer - whacking in the ~/.minecraft/saves/ directory should work (or wherever your worlds are stored on your dodgy operating system). I'll upload it for you guys to have a look at if it goes smoothly.
I don't think having walls made of gravel is at all structurally sound.

Fair enough. I think gravel looks absolutely disgusting and destroy it whenever I find it.

I find gravel to be incredibly, incredibly useful. Since it falls if there's nothing underneath it, it's easy to suffocate enemies and drop on lava (if no bucket of water is handy), and makes it ideal for use for the pillar-jumping trick since the pillar is easy to remove if you fall off it by accident. Plus mobs don't spawn on it, so it's good for laying mine cart track ontop of. And you get flint from it too. :P
Sand is just as useful and looks nicer but you don't really find it underground.
It's finally finished! ... And that's one week of my life I'll never see again. This bloody game is far too addictive.
Furnishing the place was a challenge since Minecraft doesn't have any furnishings except for boxes and bookshelves - Designs for the chairs, TV, and bedroom cabinets were inspired by other people's creations, so I can't take credit for them. I also had no idea what to put in the centre of the ground floor until today. All 4 corner towers are identical, just mirrored.
And yes, that is a Commander Keen skin.
Floor plans:
More WIPs attached if people really can be bothered to see them, and I made a greenhouse too:
Absolutely batshit raging now. I was working on covering an entire map in TNT and blowing it to hell but I accidentally set it off and stupidly I tried to correct what I done by pausing the game. So it's back to square one. Probably in about a week or two I'll have it covered and pics will be shown of the damage.

What happens when you give Minecraft Half-Life 2's audio ambience? I dubbed this vid with CoolEdit Pro to find out:
:
You WISH Minecraft sounded this good! This is an experiment I've just wasted a night on, a spur of the moment idea to see if I could pull it off. No, this is not a mod - I've simply dubbed the video using an audio editor and a soundbank, and my first ever try at using CoolEditPro for a major project. And okay, maybe the train horn wasn't so realistic, but I couldn't resist. :P Plus I think my custom echo failed a little bit when the minecart entered the tunnel. I'm pleased with this, though.
(And yeah, I built the entire track today too... It's the same map as my castle shown in my other vid. This game is too addictive... :S Lava Lake Fortress under construction.)
Sounds taken from Half-Life 2 (Valve, 2004), GTA: Vice City (Rockstar Games, 2002), Worms 3D (Team 17, 2003).
Tools used: FRAPS, Windows Movie Maker (ick), CoolEditPro 2.0
I'd never ever seen a Slime before, and suddenly I saw four or five in the one day (and no, not after I killed a big one), and I've seen them every day since.
Still haven't found any lapis lazuli, but I redecorated my bedroom with a red-and-yellow carpet and also made it bigger.
I'm annoyed at how many monsters spawn around lights at night, because it makes farming impossible unless there's only a one-block gap above the wheat, and it's awkward to integrate irrigation into that design.
I also built a hut on my spawnpoint out of wood - normal, pine, and birch. I had fun staying there for a few days and getting blown up by creepers in the same hole each time; the pit is quite deep now.
So I started a new world today and I made a bed and when I slept it woke me up little after it was still night and a freaking zombie was staring at me and I fucking shat my pants and took the sword out to kill 'im, but the question is, is this normal? Is it like an 'event' that can happen, because I only had one window and it wasn't even big enough for a zombie to get there.

I'm scared now!
As far as I'm aware it's a bug that happens when your bed is built right up next to a wall. Just move your bed a square away and you should be fine.
e: Alright, which one of you opened a mine full of zombies near my multiplayer shack?

I have a few beds next to walls and they all work fine. The only time I've ever been woken up by a monster was when I was exploring and threw my bed on the ground as it began to get dark (I do this all the time, and I've only once been hit by a monster).
