I quite like the new Mewtwo. The design itself is kinda wonky, but then so was the original when I take of my nostalgia specs. But I like that they're revisiting it and the form ability seems like something a creature like Mewtwo should have.

It also makes it seem more like a threat compared to some other legendaries. As a genetically engineered super monster it should feel more like a secret endgame boss. Which it did, but the world has moved on. Power creep, you know.

I'm not keen on any of the new Pokemon -well apart from the Fire Starter. I'm more existed for the actual game itself and the 3D graphic style. The fact that it doesn't have sprites is so refreshing.

Things that are things:

Character customisation (yay)
Specific overworld Pokemon models (no more one-Surf-fits-all)
Riding Pokemon ON LAND. So now "Rhydon" can be a pun.

Apparently the riding pokemon thing is exclusive to the new one, Gogoat. That would be stupid as hell and a waste of a gimmick imo.

Chances are increasing more and more for there being a new type, which is speculated to be Fairy. This would explain why Sylveon looks so weird.

I do think a "magic" type could be retconned into older generations pretty easily, but Fairy would be a damn stupid name for it.

If magic and psychic powers both exist, then how do you even start to tell the difference?

A lot of people think the name fairy is stupid. I wasn't so sure at first, but when I thought about all the possible types of pokemon it could fall under I warmed up to the idea. There's nothing wrong with it being called something else though.

This new type makes me a bit sceptical. The game already has a balanced typing system, so what's the need for releasing a new type?

That's the thing though, it isn't entirely balanced. Poison for instance isn't that useful, and if the rumours are true, it'll be strong against the Fairy type. The Fairy type may also be used as a way of countering Dragon types.

Not that the typing system is horrendously unbalanced, because it's generally quite good.

If it's true, maybe Game Freak are doing it to just mix things up a bit, fixing the system may not be their intention.

Well, Magnemite was changed to Electric/Steel when Steel was added in, what existing Pokemon could be Fairy? Jigglypuff and Clefairy, I guess.

D&D makes a clear distinction between psionic and magic. Which itself is counts as arcane, primal, shadow, divine and so forth. Though some arcane abilities carry the psychic keyword, hmm.

What's funny is, I can see that being in the game as actual text. Looks like the next rival is going to be a stoned hippy.

God no. The whole storyline about N and Team plasma is what put me off B/W. I thought the game took itself too seriously and I hope X/Y aren't going to be like that.

I really liked N and Team Plasma. It really showed the serious side of the games and I'd love for something more like that in X/Y.

I was thinking that since the move to 3D it might be nice to see grid-based combat in generation VII; alongside the standard face-to-face combat, of course. It would be nice to use Speed for something other than move priority.

I think that's what the series will need eventually, the whole face-to-face thing is becoming slowly stagnant, there is only so much they can do in terms of new moves, abilities, pokemon etc to keep the combat system fresh.
