Picked up Brink.

I kind of hate it, but I kind of love it.

I picked it up day one despite the negative reviews, since I had played it before for a brief period and knew I loved the core gameplay. That part has not changed. Some things have changed though, like the performance. Holy hell, this is like launch Gears of War 2 levels of terribad lag, maybe worse. Nothing sucks more than literally having your gun teleport across screen to aim, and the other guy somehow killing you with his. Not every game is laggy though, I have had some good ones. Something else that I realized, you can't really tell how much content a game through a brief demo. Brink has 8 maps, and one game mode for each of those maps. The developers try to bullshit their way through this by saying all the modes are one in the same, play campaign with friends!, play multiplayer by yourself! Brink is a multiplayer only game, I always saw through this veil, but you see how much you can repeat maps over and over very quickly. Still, I love the core gameplay, so I dont regret buying it, but I kinda do because of the other stuff.

I recommend it to all fans of team-objective games(TF2, Enemy Territory, Battlefield), because it sits among the top of these with its core mechanics. That is, buy it eventually. I do not recommend you buy it now, wait and see if the devs add more stuff, and fix the net code. If not, dont pick it up and leave me to wallow in buyer's remorse all alone.

Rented Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and though the look of the game and the retelling of the classic story are interesting, as well as the voice acting and the animation, the gameplay mechanics make me want to rip my own face off. The Cloud, a device the main character uses to zip about through levels, is about as jerky and cumbersome as that fucking jetboard from Jak 2 and 3 and there's a boss level that I absolutely refuse to play because it involves chasing one of the boss bots, a giant ambulating meat grinder called a dog, across a lake of toxic waste, trying to avoid a bunch of hap-hazardly placed bombs that the asshole you're trying to meet has laid to prevent anyone from visiting. All of this is done while on the cloud, weeble-wobbling me into the mines.

So, enough of this shit.

*Admirably insightful ramble*
I just preordered it (I've never been happier that PC and European release dates are always later. Wait for reputable views on the game after it's released, but still get money off. That said, it was only 4 hours to release when I got it, so I use the word 'Preorder' loosely).

I'm a sucker for customisation, basically. I'd play a multiplayer slug piloting game if I could change the colour of my mucus. I like the art style, so I bought it. And I like TF2, so good news there. Besides, I don't do enough co-op.

The customization is pretty awesome, I will say it takes longer to get the cool stuff for the rebels than for the security. I doubt I will change my security dude from what he is now, but I see so many things I want to put on my rebel that haven't unlocked.

I've seen games where they have a really cool unlock system that's also so obvious you could... that's also really obvious.*

When you start, the custom menu has everything unlocked. Pick and choose as you want. When you play, however, they won't necessarily be on your character. Instead, the game just saves up your points until you have enough for something on your list, and then it magically appears onto you.

*I'm tired.

Last month I bought Bioshock 1 and 2 on steam when they were on offer for £3 each. It's fun to actually play these games rather than watch someone else play them, yay for having a powerful PC now. I completed Bioshock 1 and moved on to Bioshock 2... Both are quite awesome and immersive with some of the best storytelling I've seen in a game series, even though Bioshock 2 is simply a refined version of its predecessor and doesn't really offer anything new. However, it remains one of the only games to have made me cry, since the good ending is really touching. Heh.

Whatever you do though, do not buy the PC version of Bioshock 2. Even if you download it through Steam, you'll still have to play it through Games for Windows Live or else you won't be able to save your progress. And GFWL sucks. Hard. It steals all your system resources, and then conflicts with Steam.

For example I have an issue with some missing textures and sounds. I verify the downloaded files through Steam, it re-downloads 60 files that are broken - After which I verify the files again, which Steam says are fixed. However, on launching the game, GFWL updates itself and I have the same problems. So I verify the files with Steam and it again says that the files are corrupt. Viscous cycle. I have to run Bioshock 2 with GFWL or else I can't save my progress.

So yes, don't make my mistake. Fortunately the game isn't broken to the point where it's unplayable, but that's still annoying. Glad I didn't pay full price, and it's a big shame because the problems ruin the immersion, even though I know what I'm missing out on. Bioshock 1, however, runs perfectly fine.

I bought Dark Void a while ago for really cheap, something around 2€.

It's terrible. I don't like the flying parts at all, the story pretty much sucks and there are only like 6 guns in the whole game from what I understood.

I'm now halfway through the game and it's all the same repetitive bullshit.

I 100%'d this game.

Nothing can be worse than this game.

I also tried out the demo for Dark Void a while back and enjoyed it. I guess if the demo is literally all the game has to offer it gets old quick.

I'm playing Doom 2 (Scythe 2).
It's a really hard mod actually, old but awesome.
I'm most of the way through it, considering I find it a bit easier since I've completed Doom I & II on UltraViolence. I would do The Plutonia Experiment and TNT: Evilution but they're waaaayyy too hard.
I'm playing it on GZDoom right now, Skulltag doesn't support my laptop's resolution which is a shame. I'd really love to play it online with some other people. I've tried Doomsday, however it's extremely laggy so I don't bother.
Also, GZDoom and ZDoom are the only ports I've managed to get a controller to work with (the Xbox 360 one).

UltraViolence? The Plutonia Experiment? TNT: Evilution? GZDoom? Skulltag? Doomsday?
UltraViolence is the 2nd hardest difficulty on Doom. Just before Nightmare!

The Plutonia Experiment and TNT: Evilution are levels combined to make Final Doom, which is basically an addon for Doom II since there's only a few new textures added.

GZDoom, Skulltag and Doomsday are source ports which all play Doom differently.

GZDoom is a full 3D renderer which enables you to look in all directions without the screen being distorted and it also enables billboarding. It uses OpenGL features for this, much like SW and MO on steam (I think).

Skulltag is basically the same thing, only it allows you to play online using a matchmaking program called Doomseeker. It doesn't allow HD gameplay or controller support (much) though...

Doomsday is the whole thing updated. HD textures, 3D models, 3D rendering, OpenGL, shaders, and any resolution you want. With all this, it's extremely laggy on standard PCs and laptops. You can turn some features off though.

Hope you understand now!

Let's talk about Brink. When I first heard of it I thought it was going to be good, I mean, it was made by Bethesda right. Wrong, the game was horrible and confusing as hell. I would be running for five minutes without a baldies notion on what the current objective is because I must have changed it about six times in the heat of battle by accident.

Also, can these fuckers ever die? Every time I'm struck down I could possibly bleed out for hours on end until someone throws me a syringe filled with make feel good. God, this game has so much potential but because it wasn't very linear it felt like a hash job in trying to give us choices but instead giving us a headache.

What would the legitimate reasons be? The opening cut-scenes make no relevance to the game at all and are incredibly boring to watch? How the AI is so fucking stupid and fails to at least try and work together leaving me fighting off an entire wave of enemies by myself because the AI are too focused on lesser tasks?

The game is broken like hell. The freerunning system was a nice feature but the only people that can take advantage of this properly is the light body types which are fucking useless in firefight situations. Actually check that, everything in the game is fucking broken.

Yesterday I bought Worms: Reloaded while it was on sale on Steam (as much as I love Worms, £8.99 is about as much as I'd like to pay for a 2D worms remake). It's as much fun as Worms Armegeddon was back in the day... Though why do the worms themselves look so crap compared to their older versions?

I already made a custom soundbank for it based on Portal 2's defective turrets, so it can't all be too bad. Again, OWF refuses to embed this for some stupid reason: http://youtu.be/0BOzrWBAbR8

Started playing Lost Odyssey again. Fucking beautiful. I forgot why I stopped playing it the first time round.

Should've got World Party. Much better.

I'm worried now because I bought Brink but haven't played it yet.

Holy shit, I got my copy of L.A. Noire today and that game is amazing.

The interrogations are really well made and the faces of the characters look so realistic. The chase missions are fun and I like the ranking system.

Could be GoTY 2011 if you ask me, but let's see what the end of this year brings us. (Skyrim, Arkham City, BF3.)

I have, and Armageddon, and 3D. WWP and Armageddon are superior to Reloaded, but I played them to death back in the day when they were new. As much as Reloaded doesn't bring anything new, it isn't a bad game and it is still fun.

@Dynamithix - I've been keeping an eye on L.A. Noire and watched the first 5 missions on YouTube - That game really does look amazing with a fuckton of detail and a massive, massive map, while also introducing game mechanics that haven't been done before (reading character's facial expressions and judging them accordingly based on their behaviour). I like what I see.

However, body movements are stiff in comparison to the natural-looking ones of the faces, since the motion capture quality for body movements isn't as high as that used for the faces. It's like a realistic face on a robot or so. Looks amazing, but somehow odd and I can't help feeling a touch of uncanny valley. Seems we still have a little way to go before we start seeing truly realistic characters, but we're getting there.
