So once we were ready, Crashpunk, Darkhoodness, Scraby and myself set off north looking for any gravel shores below which we might find such a cave. We soon found an extensive area of gravel shoreline east of the surface lava pool where DH and dripik built a couple of wooden huts. We found and investigated a nearby explored cave, but there was nothing stalactitic or story-like in there. I used F3 to look for any subterranean, near-surface mobs that would indicate a cave, but although we found an excavated a couple of such places, we couldn't find what we were looking for, so we continued the search eastwards.
Ench, Scrabino and I spent about an hour finding and then thoroughly searching that cave today before Splat told us we were in the wrong place. Then, with Crashpunk's help, we chopped down a whole fucking forest and filled the chest.

Anyways, I was kinda pissed that someone came along and planted trees all around my recently flattened ground. And a massive fucking tunnel just along the left hand of my cave.
Alright, fine, jeeze, I fixed that for you. Honestly. :P Planting saplings in a "LOL" was me failing to be funny, sure, but I'd have hoped you'd have been grateful for the timber.

Ah well, it's mine now.

Also we (well, I) had to dig a stairway out of your cave 'cause we couldn't find the exit. I filled that in.

:
I'm going to be working on extending the red line past the Apartments, so nobody touch that. It's going to take a while because it's not going to go directly to my house - I want to make it loop around for thirty seconds or so: down through a lava cave, up to the roof of the world, off a jump or two and then back down into my station. I'll be using pressurepad rails and note blocks to do thematic music.
I hate to be possessive over my railway, but I'm not too happy with this since I want to extend the rail line north at some point soonish to service Ridg3's and WoF's places, the lava lake, and perhaps even Manco's place if he'd like (which he probably won't). Your line will be cool and everything, but do you have to connect to to the end of the main line? Can't I extend the line North a little way, and build you a separate platform instead? It'd be silly to make everyone go through that each time just to go north even if it would be cool.

:
Scrabino and I really need to pool some resources and get ourselves added to that.
I can probably extend the line from Warriopunk's to your places if you'd like since you're nearby - Or build you a separate platform. Give me some resources and I'll do that for you (I lost my iron in Ridg3's cave, I forgot I was carrying it ).

@Max - Excellent storytelling, the start of an epic saga. I should've taken screenshots. + Rep.

This factory project looks awesome. Soon as I'm able to access the server count me in (I couldn't access it even before the whitelist, so it may be network issues.)

Okay, fair enough. I need to collect heaps of materials anyway, so I'll connect it to the main line further along somewhere.

I just made a floorplan for Rupture Farm's skeleton of its outer wall. You can more or less see how much space will be available inside from this plan, I hope. The outer shell will be curved around the corners, so it won't end up looking as square as this when it's done.

Oh, I couldn't see the lol in the trees at all and yes it would have been easier for me to take it down instead of throwing a hissy. But thanks anyways for clearing it and filling it.

Seconding this.

Probably unrelated, but I've spent the last half hour or so exploring a massive mine network that I stumbled across while setting up a mine beneath my lair.

If you have a mine that contains huge lengths of one-block-wide corridors - hey, thanks for the ores, why didn't you mine them yourself?

That sounds like how I mine, but my mine's not that big and closed due to fear of slime.

I didn't think slime was an enemy. I mean it can hurt you, but if you set fire to it and the area around it, it can't multiply and it'll just burn up.

Talk to Scrabino. I gave him a stack of rails yesterday. I also have enough iron to make another stack, but I like having iron spare. I'm currently working on some bedrock-level excavation, so hopefully I'll find some gold soon, too.

I dug out some coal and iron ore, but there's still tons of each left in there. I was getting pretty unnerved exploring the place, so I left fairly sharpish.

I have an 8x8x32+ (I say 32+ because I'm going to deepen it MOAR) that I'm using to get stone for DH. I haven't found anything except one huge chunk of coal but once I reach bedrock hopefully there'll be some minerals we can use to get us some rail system

Edit: It's actually 6x6x(X). I'm so ashamed

Gold is found at the same concentration at y32 as it is at the bedrock.
Iron is found at the same concentration at y64 as it is at the bedrock.

Also, diamond is found at the same concentration at y18 as it is at the bedrock, Lapis is found in a greater concentration at y19 than it is at the bedrock, and coal is found at an equal concentration everywhere.

I think that's just random.

So, according to Ench, if you dig down to layer 14 and have a 4-block high tunnel you will statistically yeild the most of each subterranean resource. Of course, to manage getting to layer 14 you'd probably need to count up from bedrock.

The Minecraft wiki talks about how common things are at what levels, but you have to be careful not to spoil things if you don't like spoilers (I tread carefully to avoid seeing crafting recipes - although I know all of them now).

Also, F3 shows your coordinates.

Or do as Darkhood did, flatten an area the size of Texas for a building project and uncover over 70 iron.

I can get that amount by wandering cavern systems, no need to use up huge amounts of diamond tool to flatten anything.

I would like to claim credit for that, and also in the name of Crashpunk and possibly others whom I haven't yet seen working there.

There was also a bit of coal.

That was Ridg3 - He donated some to me yesterday which I've partly used for the railway north. I only found about 7 or 8 iron from flattening the Rupture Farms area... I've had more success digging near the bedrock in my mines. I think he found that in his caves though.

Found lots of coal, though. Like that's useful at all considering charcoal is incredibly easy to obtain from chopping and replanting that forest I grew nearby.

EDIT: BTW if anyone can still spare cobblestone I'll be needing hundreds, if not a couple of thousand stacks of the stuff. Don't worry about smelting it though, I've got that handled.
