I think that’s kind of weird. I have actors/voice actors I like the work of, but I don’t seek out media just because they appear in it. Directors/creative influences are another matter.

Well as for actors, that breed has pretty much died out. For decades well into the more modern era of Hollywood, fans would follow their favourite stars through roles. I've heard it be said that Will Smith is the last 'real' Hollywood star in that sense, as his name is/used to be generally enough to get people interested in a new film.
For voice actors, this is far far more of a anime thing (
And the reason lists like this exist) but I don't reckon that becoming a fan of a specific voice actor from one show and checking out their older work based on that performance is inherently wrong or sad.
Of course it would be much much better if he started refering to her by name, not by pony.
