New Artwork Discussion
I thought that with the recent influx of unseen concept art from Oddworld and Farzad, it might be salient to have one thread to collate what could be a series of revitalising discussions about what these new designs and artworks could tell us about Oddworld lore.
I'll get the ball rolling with two pieces that really caught my attention from Farzad's MO concept art. https://static1.squarespace.com/stat...pg?format=750w Queen Skillya - thicc slig gf So from what little we know about Skillya, she's this monstrous, disgusting and abhorrent slig matriarch who sells her children into slavery and eats the ones who disobey their orders. The picture we've got now protrays something vastly different; this iteration of Skillya looks happy-go-lucky, pampered and fairly motherly. I wonder if her character was meant to be expanded upon in far more detail than what little we know, or if this is an early concept artwork and her personality was subsequently shifted to something far darker. Nevertheless I low key love this piece, and really hope we get to see her in game. https://static1.squarespace.com/stat...pg?format=500w Mobile Factory Juggernaut - Jumping Spider-esque Death Machine The sheer scale of this thing really took me by surprise. What appears to be a spider inspired (presumably Vykker) harvesting monstrosity, large enough to be mostly out of shot, obliterating a Mudos forest landscape. It looks to be fairly indiscriminately ploughing through the terrain, so I'm wondering whether this thing is meant to be processing all the assorted debris it accumulates between its wheels, or whether it's meant to lay waste and level the landscape for future industrial settlement? |
Baby Vykkers tho

:') baby vykkers that look like 60yr old men.

They look like minions tbh

i love that mobile factory with it's cute spider eyes. LOOK AT THE SIZE OF IT
when the engines start up in that thing and it starts moving the entire fucking continent would shake. i like the idea that before it started 'harvesting' in a certain location they'd have to warn industrialists in the surrounding areas via newsflash that there might be tremors occurring. i assumed it would be processing everything it eats into useable materials but considering the size of those fucking gears it wouldn't surprise me if it was just for ground clearance/levelling. and skillya, to me she looks like she's more interested in looking pretty and wearing expensive jewellery than caring about her children, sort of like a spoiled brat whose only happy if she's being flattered or compensated. just look at all the rings on her hand, it's like she's sold her childen so she can live in comfort with every whim catered for. that's just the impression i get when i think of her backstory. i mean she gotta lotta jewellery, man. must've come from somewhere. she a gold digga |
Interesting, not how I imagined Skillya at all. Actually reminds me of Zoidberg haha :D Always wondered what sligs look like under the mask, Skillya's eyes look fairly normal?
It's cool you can see Abe and Munch running away from the giant machine, amongst the wildlife in the centre. |
:
Ooh good take, I prefer this idea. |
Yeah, that sounds like a very possible theory.
Sounds like Oddworld is filled with moms that only cares about themselves :/ |
:
She looks cute even pretty (in comparison to the other industrial queens) but i wouldnt want to be the slig who is sent to Skillya, especially during meal time, if that angry pic of her in the top right corner is anything to go by. |
I can't be the only one who thinks that seeing such normal-looking eyes on the face of a slig is downright vertigo-inducing...
|
It makes sense she has more normal looking eyes, as a significant character, they need her to be able to convey more emotion than just your run of the mill slig.

:
You know i really hope we get even a smidge of her in SS |
