The End of OWF
Hello everyone, I hope you're all keeping safe and well amidst the plague, corruption and general societal decline that has gripped the world this year. As Phoetux pointed out in his post on the 18th November, oddworldforums.net is no longer an accessible domain. Like an octogenarian wracked with seisures, OWF is slowly but inextricably declining. With every new tragedy that befalls our beleaguered forum, more and more of its essence slips away, ebbing in 1s and 0s back into the stuff of the internet itself.
There will come a time very soon when one of us makes a post, unwitting of the fact that it will be the last to ever grace this hallowed, noble place. Oddworld Forums, my internet home, and a place dearly and inextricably licked to the very fabric of my Self, will vanish in a final burst of internet timeouts and domain name errors. What is to be done, then? I don't think it's wise to build a new forum. As has been noted in Phoetux's post, it wouldn't be quite right, and it certainly wouldn't be OWF. A couple of months ago I did a bit of digging and realised that the domain name oddworldforums.net might be up for grabs next year. I had planned to snatch it up, if possible, and build a memorial page for all our members lost to the eons of time. Is this something you guys might like to see? If so, let me know below. I've written up a list of names I'd planned to add to the tombstone. If you think any are missing, do make a suggestion and I'll add them in. List of Dearly Departed Members

man so the sites is really dying, sad to see it won't make it Soulstorm, this place really feels like one of those old castles standing in some field somewhere real part of history no one remembers but every once in a while someone stumbles upon and just looks around

That list is like everyone thought I was dead and in the meantime I see my coffin descending underground. Feels weird.
I've been thinking about it a lot and perhaps people might not enjoy forums these days at all. If I have to make these, I'd need help. Still, the list is a good idea. And it looks too short, probably because someone is still missing. |

Could you add joshkrz? Who knows where he is now but I still remember his Flash game version of AO/AE that was very cool at the time.

Nice to see you, Big Aids. I think the memorial page sounds like a great idea, maybe people could send in their favourite archived threads and the like?
Those of us that made the leap to Discord would probably appreciate a link there, too. Also, MeechShrykull1029 needs to be on that list. |
Both good shouts, I've added the names in to the list (and I should really keep a list off-site actually). Not a bad idea about the archived threads. How would I link to them once the site is down though? I can definitely put a link up on the memorial page too.

I feel personally attacked I didn't make the memorial list. Most don't know this but I've been stuck on this forum for 7 years now unable to type due to muscular dystrophy. But, none the less I am still here and hope you're all well.
My optimism glands tell me we should keep the site going but, c'est la vi. |

I've perused these Forums regularly for many years, since being a young'un with no account. A shame indeed for it to be lost. But, as others have said, Reddit tore the internet community rulebook apart; weird though as I find the Oddworld Reddit to be relatively quiet.
Either way, I'll still keep tabs on it and any new page you link to the OG domain if you manage to grab it, STM. Hopefully SoulStorm will bring about a positive resurgence of passion in the series with new fans and communities, even if over on Reddit instead. i've only just found this fucking site. i noticed oddworldforums.net or whatever had died and was all like "oh shit its finally happened", then i kept checking for a few days to see if it was going to reappear and eventually stopped bothering. i'm always late to the party. the party of old neckbeards and sweaty nerds humming along to the dishevelled heartbeat of our fucked-over rusty homestead. god i love you fucking cunts. but we're going to die soon. for REAL this time. no more dress rehearsals. no more "oh i'm dead BUT NOT REALLY". next time it'll be the Big One, man. the Big Sleep. soon it will be over. i promise. pinky swear. hold me close.

Yo STM could you plz add me to the list too. I've been around for ages now too, ever since the .lvls thread that went on for years. Weird seeing all the names that I recognise but will be lost with time, never having actually know the people behind them. I suppose it's different nowadays, making internet friends. You all chat on discord and actually get to know the people. And one day when I meet Lorne (which I 100% will before he dies - if he ever does) I will be at a loss of where to post the photo and explanation of the experience :'(
And like Oziah said, once SoulStorm is released Oddworld will become mainstream and fans will no longer just be this small group of outcasts hanging out on the edges of the internet. So long and thanks for all the slurgs. |
I certainly did not expect to make the list. Please feel free to contact me here with a decision on the forums future. There was at some point a facebook group also, perhaps that’s a thing to resurrect.

Wow I legit thought it was gone with barely a trace, any data hoarders have this forum archived somewhere? Idk seems a shame to just let it all disappear. What's the story anyway what happened with the original domain

Unfortunately Havoc has an archive of everything on here (I think)
The DNS for the old domain is in the bin, Alcar is the one that owns that domain and despite paying for the domain and server, he never manages it so inevitably it'll rot and break. |
