MOD EDIT: This thread was split off from 'I Have Just Seen... VII' here.

Anyway, I just watched Mulan and 101 Dalmations back-to-back. I’ve been wanting to get a Disney blu ray collection started for a while, so that’s where I’ve started.

Make sure you get Aristocats then!

Um x qs me are you forgetting The Fox and The Hound

I was going to say "and The Rescuers", but The Rescuers: Down Under was far superior in every way.

Manco 05-09-2014 03:22 AM

Sorry, Mulan and Aladdin are the two best Disney movies ever.

Definitely can't argue with Aladdin.

OANST 05-09-2014 08:08 AM

I've seen Frozen a few dozen times now (that's pretty much all the kids want to watch), and I still don't hate it. That's as high praise as I will ever give to a Disney movie.

Slog Bait 05-09-2014 08:18 AM

The only things I really liked about Frozen were the animation and the ~VILLAINOUS REVEAL~

The animation was very nice. I couldn't rewatch it more than a few times, though.

OANST 05-09-2014 08:59 AM

I never noticed that there actually was a villian. I'll admit that even though the movie has been on in the same room with me more times than I know, I've never actually paid attention to it. That might be why I don't hate it.

Vyrien 05-09-2014 09:29 AM

I've watched it a fair few times because I'm a complete child. I like Idina Menzel.

Tangled was more technically accomplished in my opinion but I prefer Frozen's songs and setting. Also I think Elsa is supposed to be the villain, to the majority of the cast, at least. Because we see the story from her side, however, she isn't portrayed as one to us. Hence there's no real antagonist.

Slog Bait 05-09-2014 10:11 AM

I was just exaggerating on Hans being the manipulative mirror asshole he is. While there is no real antagonist in the story, you can make one by taking on any character's pov. The way Hans completely fucked over Anna like that can and has made a lot of people focus on him as the "villain", and it's very likely he'll be referred to every time the topic of Disney villains come up.

But yeah otherwise Elsa seems to be the main antagonist to everyone except Anna and the viewer, really.

OANST 05-09-2014 10:21 AM

I don't remember him doing anything shitty. But again, I wasn't paying attention.

Get the fuck out, you really didn’t get anything out of Let It Go?

I don’t really think Elsa can be construed as the main antagonist – she’s shown in a very sympathetic light through pretty much the whole movie, and Anna does a good job of not making everyone else freak out over her powers when she runs off. In fact the only people who DO still go after her are the weasel-y old dude and Hans, who both make a good case for being considered villains.

Nepsotic 05-09-2014 01:03 PM

Going back to the topic of old Disney films, they were definitely at their peak in the early-mid 90s when they were banging out a film every rear. Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King etc. When Pocahontas came out they just went in a downward spiral. Mulan was kind of ehhh.

IF I HEAR SOMEONE SING/TALK ABOUT THAT SONG ONE MORE TIME

Wings of Fire 05-09-2014 01:10 PM

Mulan was kind of eh, but it did have one of Disney's best songs in it.

Based Donny Osmond.

Sounds like you’ve got some pent-up frustration there, maybe you should let it go.

Hey it was better than Pocahontas and Hercules and basically everything following it until Princess and the Frog*

*Not seen Atlantis or Treasure Planet.

STM 05-09-2014 01:37 PM

Fuck off Hercules was the shit and I will set a hydra on you for thinking otherwise.

Manco 05-09-2014 01:39 PM

Hercules is probably somewhere in my top 5, to be honest.

WoF quit being wrong about Disney.

Wings of Fire 05-09-2014 01:40 PM

Hercules' one saving grace was the heroine. I disliked practically everything else.

Nepsotic 05-09-2014 01:41 PM

Hercules was actually one of the worst imo. The decisions made were so odd and pointless, but odd in a bad way that doesn't work.

Varrok 05-09-2014 01:59 PM

I've somehow managed to miss most of Disney animated movies. I watched Tarzan and Cindirella.

I recognized Meg’s voice actor in something recently and now it’s bugging me that I can’t remember what it was.
