The OWF Games club
This isn't a clan, or a cohesive team or anything like that, just a little experiment I thought we could try, and yes, it is basically a book club for The Video Games. Here's how it works:
At the start of a month/cycle/whatever, we all decide to play through one specific game for a certain period. This doesn't prohibit you from playing anything else, just trying as best you can to see the game through to completion in the time period specified. We do have specific threads for games already, so this is basically buckling down and focusing on one a bit more than others. Anyone is welcome to join, but you must own the game or be willing/capable of acquiring it. Obviously not everyone has a PS3/PC/360/Wii/whatever, so cross platform games will be a good idea. An important part of this is that the game doesn't have to be brand new. For example, we could play through Final Fantasy VII or Metroid Prime or the old Crash games or anything like that, the point is to maintain a dialogue about it and try to make at least one post/new point each time you play (with limits to avoid too much shitposting.) An important part will be keeping things spoiler free for people who haven't played the game before. Additionally, there's a funny little thing that Sony doesn't talk about that is actually an essential feature of PSN: Game sharing. Honest to goodness, legal gamesharing. Anything downloaded from the PSN can subsequently be downloaded to 5 other (or possibly a total of 5) PS3's. We'd use dummy accounts to distribute them and I'm comfortable with buying the games myself. Sony doesn't like Account sharing, though, because of Netflix/PS Gold and that sort of stuff, so we'll have to set some rules as to how we do this and to avoid having an international entertainment megacorp on our butts. I'm sort of aiming for the next few weeks, so all ideas/criticisms/suggestions are appreciated. |
Like a book club only far better. I'm up for this... I don't have a problem buying games either... the only thing I can't play readily is PS3 games but I guess it isn't essential to play every single game that's chosen?
|
I don't really get the idea. Are we supposed to buy the same game and just talk about it or what? Why not play something in co-op or multiplayer?
|
I'll happily tag along if I've actually got the games in question.
|
I'll be joining in on this,
But knowing my luck, there will be no driving games :( |
I'm in, however if its a PS3, Xbox or a high spec PC game I won't be able to play it.
|
King Arthur's Gold is a fun little game. Think Terraria meets Team Fortress.
|
I'm totally down for this. I say we do Metroid Prime first, I've been meaning to replay that for a long time.
|
I hope not :(
Don't get me wrong, I totally love that game! But I recently got rid of Metroid Prime Trilogy :( To be honest though, if I were to play through that again, I'd have to get a Gamecube controller first, I found it a real pain trying to play it with the Wii remote. |
Yeah, I don't think I could play it without the gamecube controller.
|
I'm in if I can find the game for cheap or if I have it already.
|
I think given the recent discussion we should do a Sonic game.
This is a really good idea. |
I vote Sonic 2, everyone should have access to that.
|
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle or bust.
|
I don't have that/know where I can find it these days. I do have the original Sonic Adventure, though.
|
I'd prefer an early Sonic game, mainly because I have access to them and I'm already slightly familiar with them.
|
We should probably tally up what systems everyone has access to and go from there.
360 Gamecube PS1 Gameboy Advanced DS Xbox 1 |
This seems like a cool idea and I'd love to take part.
However, this works for books because they're inexpensive, and any sod with reading ability can pick one up and read it on the spot. Games on the other hand are really expensive, and not everybody has access to the same type of gaming machine... But if you can get this to work and find enough people here with the right systems, go for it. :) (And for the record I only have a high-end PC and a PS1, but not much money for gaming - I even think my monthly £9 sub for WoW is far too much and tend to only buy games when they're on the Steam sale unless it's from a developer I really love, like Valve) |
Gamecube
Wii N64 PS1 PS3 Xbox 360 (some original Xbox games) GBA DS decent PC, but nothing super high end think that's it. |
High end PC
360 Wii DS |
Mid-range PC
360 3DS PSP |
Below average PC
Xbox 360 PS2 DS GBA Xbox |
Oh neat I'm totally down for this! Also, I have inFamous on PSN and am willing to share if anyone is interested?
systems: PS3 PS2 PS1 Xbox Xbox 360 Wii Gamecube Genesis SNES Saturn Dreamcast |
Yeah I'm down with this for sure!
PS3 PS2 Xbox360 Medium PC Wii N64 |
PS2, Xbox 360. Dreamcast.
I'll probably avoid PC games as I don't fancy jumping through a million hoops to get them running on Mac. Also, I'll probably avoid the Wii games to since I don't like the Wii. I also have a Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and a Sega Mega CD but I'll run those through an emulator since I can't play them properly on my modern TV. |
Here's what I got.
Wii Gamecube 3DS Shit computer with a shit graphics card N64 NES Megadrive (That doesn't work on my TV so i'll rule that out) PS1 PS2 DS Gameboy Colour Gameboy Advanced I'm very happy doing anything retro, I'll have to emulate games that I don't have though. |
High end PC*
PS3 PS2 3DS (my mum's) Low end shitty Mac *I don't have a graphics card for it yet. I have enough RAM that this isn't a problem for most games, but I'm having some issues. |
V. High End PC
Mega Drive II ... What? |
High (or Very High) End PC and... um
...and... ;( SCREW THAT, I CAN EMULATE EVERY CONSOLE UP TO PS2 ERA |
I'm up for this, I have quite a few consoles and should have no problem.
