What really killed the idea of Internet forums
just one of those shower thoughts you have now and then, seems like even with discord and the like the idea that forums would just die off seems strange

In short, content. All of the internet revolves around content, curated and selected by some arbitrary process, whether it be upvotes, likes or just a plain old algorithm. Forums don't use that. Oh sure, there's rep, but it's not like you can see rep associated with a particular message. No, on a forum, you read a disjointed conversation, top to bottom. Doesn't work as content, it's just a communication system.
Reddit is communication and content at once, basically prioritizing certain communications into content. You hop on Reddit, threads are by how rated they are. How good the content is. Comments are by upvotes. How good the content is. Oh sure, you communicate, but you're there for content. There's probably longer and more in-depth answers you could try to find, but that's mine. Also, in the case of OWF it was probably a mix of our attitude, our total lack of anything interesting happening and nothing to say or do except start the third sex thread. |

as for the actual thread topic, im actually somewhat semi-active-ish on a couple big forums that are still very much alive, but i guess some communities are just too big to die off |

Maybe it's because we don't have a sex thread right now that the forums are in such straits. I mean, has anyone tried to make a sex thread recently?

In the case of this one in particular it's probably just been due to the fact there's almost literally nothing to talk about in regards to Oddworld any more. I couldn't tell you why I'm here again today, this place just pops back into my brain every so often.
Soulstorm development was so secretive for almost 6 years and when it finally came out it was mediocre at best. There's only so many times people here can make threads akin to Oddysee good, Exoddus good, everything else bad. Will that be Oddworld Inhabitants' final game? Probably. And even dare I say, hopefully. Some forums are still pretty active. I don't have an account there, but Resetera is one that springs to mind, with threads already relegated to the second page after less than half an hour if there've been no new replies. I have a love/hate relationship with Reddit. It's probably the best place for news about any given subject you're into on the internet, but I hate how most people interact with one another there. Having briefly delved into Discord sometime last year to see what all the fuss was about, I uninstalled it after 10 minutes and I'm pretty certain I'll never use it again. |

CRAZY Oddworld 7 will be released on ⠀⠀/⠀/⠀⠀⠀!

I miss internet forums, man. There aren't many active ones left. Even the juggernauts of the noughties/10s like NMA are on the way out.

same. reddit was never able to replace them for me and now discord isn't able to either. it sucks because now i'm smarter or at least have the ability to come across as such and could school people and look cool in front of my peers.
