New N Tasty - Game of the Year

Posted 02-27-2015 at 01:18 PM by AlexFili
I love this game.

Crazy flailing arms Abe! Glitches aside it is a brilliant game and I love it so much. I didn't make that video (but I wish I had, that had me in stitches there)
Many thanks to OWI and all their fans. Here's hoping for more Oddworld on the horizon

Why? Its not gamebreaking, and this is after hes been running the game for 6 months. Its probably not something youll do in ur 2-3 playthroughs.

It is super good, but game of the year? I dunno. I don't usually place remakes in that caliber, good as they may be.

But still, it gets a big fat fanboy 5/5 from me.

Still, I've heard that the very first mine you see can't even kill you. And the cutscenes are too bright. Those all are minor, but they take away from the experience instead of giving in. I'm patient, I waited over a decade.

That's fair enough. But just bare in mind, some glitches are still in the game since the original PS4 version. They either cannot be patched or still being worked on.

And in all honestly. bugs like these only happen rarely. I played and completed the entire game without seeing a single bug.

These are the two possibilities. There is also a third possibility, that the developers decide to ignore those issues because they think they're not important whatsoever. This may or may not be a case here, and frankly, nobody can really say for sure, considering the unorthodox situation with SW&MO PC ports. If that is the case, I strongly disagree with that standpoint, obviously.

I've played AO and AE so many times, and I've never encountered a single bug. Really. I thought the games were bug-less until quite recently, when I saw those videos of the strange climbing but that's quite hard to reproduce. Those games were made almost 20 years ago, and honestly I don't think I, or anybody, should let the developers get away with such obvious bugs that can be spotted the second you start the game like that with the flying mine.

I am not "butthurt" and I am not angry. This is all about the rules, and views.

I dont know whats up with that first mine. But after being chased out of that cutscene, if youre immersed in the game, you would see the mine and run, not dilly dally and wait for the sligs to show up.

I cant say for sure whats intended or unintended at this point though.

No game is without bugs. I can't tell if Varrok is so entitled that he expects a flawless product from every game he doesn't purchase, or if he's just committed to stirring shit at every turn.

I tell you no lie. I didn't have any. What bugs did you have in the original games?

While I might seem as the latter person sometimes, I don't really intend to mess up with anybody now. I know the product will not be 100% flawless, but, as I said before, the bug with the first flying mine sounds so basic that it counts as lazy betatesting/QA. Imagine that the first slig you encounter couldn't even shoot you. That takes away from the experience as much as the mine.

It could be intended. As i said, whos gonna walk into a floating mine as soon as you start the game?
Also, it doesnt even start moving after you unless u stand there for like 15 seconds. So 99% of people wont even see that mine in their playthrough.

What's the point of "scaring" players of being killed by a mine, if the mine can't even kill the player? It could lead to wrong conclusions, such as mines can't kill Abe. It's unintended and confusing. And a bug.

Why don’t you just go pirate it to see how bad a decision it is rather than just yelp about bugs that don’t exist then?

Varrok's Avatar
I did not really pirate it. And I intend to support OWI with my cash, I just want a clarification about the goddamn mine.

I don't think they're supposed to blow up, considering you run between them. Honestly Varrok, the fuck is wrong with you guy? It literally does not matter at all.

Manco's Avatar
It’s one of the mines from the cutscene immediately prior to the first level, it doesn’t blow up because it floats along next to the walkway rather than above it, and it’s there to tie into the opening cutscene and to encourage the player to move forward instead of hanging around. It isn’t meant to blow up because otherwise people would have a lot of trouble finding the secret area hidden there.

I’ve played the entire game now and I’ve only encountered 3 bugs: one is already patched, and the other two are already being investigated and aren’t even gamebreaking.

You’ve been incredibly irritable for the past few days since New n Tasty was released and it’s over basically nothing. If you’re going to wait for more patches before buying then fine, but don’t go on as if the game is some buggy mess and you’re concerned about the developers cutting and running or something.

It's not. And I've never said it is, assholes. I said that they're minor issues and I will buy the game. Clean your eyes (ears) before dubbing me "irritable" or saying "what the hell is wrong with me". Idiots.

Not to agree with Varrok, but I don't remember ever finding a bug or glitch in the original game until I saw all these speedruns of people playing the game at lightspeed. Unless that's what you guys were doing, I'm unsure of what bugs or glitches you're all thinking of.

The only bugs I remember from the original game were the gamespeak issues with the Steam version of Abe's Oddysee.

Oh and of course the ledge grab exploit.

Oh yeah, I didnt even think that the mine might not even be on the same plane as Abe. There are 2 other mines in the game that are just in the background.

The old games definitely had bugs. I remember some sligs that did not behave properly (could not see/hear Abe well). Munch's Oddysee had some glitches such as Abe standing unrealistically when on a slanted map edge or sligs running around like idiots when I'm on the bottom rung of a ladder.
