I Fucked Up

Posted 08-15-2013 at 04:38 AM by STM
My AS results were just a happy anomaly it seems. I returned to my level of crappy mediocrity this year with my A2 results. I'm actually not upset though, I think I'm gonna learn a trade, become an electrician or a plumber. Ho needs skool n e way?

Good luck to all the other chaps getting their results today and congrats to the ones that did well.

Vyrien, looks like that Mario + Luigi w/ tits thing is happening.

What's AS, A2 and why are those important?

They're effectively the grades that determine what universities you can and cannot get into.

Try not to let it bring you down too much! From mine and a lot of others' experience A Levels are a massive waste of time and an unnecessary weight upon people's shoulders. People can put a ridiculous amount of time into studying and working hard only to receive something very little out of them. I don't know, maybe it's having to juggle a lot of work between 3 or 4 completely different subjects that is just extremely difficult.

There are plenty more options for you. Have you considered an apprenticeship or maybe going to college to study something?

This is how I feel, it's not the end of the world and it seems more trivial in my head as the days go by. It pisses me off I wasted two years of my life on it though. I'm thinking of becoming a plumber or something but yes, I'll be doing an apprenticeship if I can get one.

What I want to do and what I can do a two different things.

We live in different realities, then.

Well, at least your future is safer with that attitude.

get a good trade behind you, my friend. then build on those foundations towards a career in writing if you wanted to and if it's a viable option at the time. you know what you're doing anyway.

I might apply for a college place and do a Plumbing level 2 course for a year, it seems interesting and everyone needs a plumber right? The writing thing should come later I hope.

Maybe you'll end up writing some seminal plumbing theory textbooks (use a pseudonym like Christopher Kitchens or something)? Combine your (potential) career and interest.

Anyway, it's a shame your exams didn't go how you wanted, but you're absolutely right, there are other options. At least it'll save you on some of the loans you'd have to take out if you'd have gone straight into university.

Yeah, one of the great positives is that I won't be in £60,000 of debt in four years. Plus the course I found at my local college only takes a year to complete before you can do a level 3 or get a job. Pimlico do an apprenticeship scheme too but it takes 4 years and I'm so sick of education now.

I think if I write something, the main character will be a plumber. Maybe he gets sucked into a toilet and gets transported into this psychedelic LSD world. I haven't worked out the details yet.

Thanks for the support by the way, chaps and chapettes.
